Railroad guy told me they can’t go all away across because idiots will try to beat it and then get stuck with nowhere to go so the rates of vehicles hit would go up. They said their main problems now is trailered vehicles getting stuck on the raised track bed and people getting hit by second train on duel tracks. Also, if you break down or get stuck don’t call 911 call the number on the sign at the crossing and give the crossing number. They can immediately stop the train or tell you to get out way cause it may already be too late if train is less than mile away.

Now you know another reason the US can't have 200 MPH trains.
Wait until people start to take pop shots at them as they go by.
Sadly, we are a nation that has a culture where the rules don't matter.

Put up some electronic signage that gives an estimation of when the train will be completely passed.
This exists in some places by using an app. The one on metairie road has one.

You should at least slowdown at RR crossings. Hopefully there is a gate: or flashing lights at minimum. Then assuming there aren’t a bunch of trees at it , you should see a damn train approaching or hear the thing coming
And if after all that, you still decide to cross at that moment and get smoked, baby it is your time . Because most everyone else can figure out to not cross due to an oncoming train

Maybe it's suicide by train. Someone I went to grammar school with threw himself in front of a train.

cars from getting trapped by the gates.
You see the videos of the cars trapped then they backup and stop when they hit the gate. I bet the car would bend it out the way. Its going to leave a mark on the car and you are going to have to explain why you were on the inside of the gates but you still have a car and maybe your life.

Trains like pussy are undefeated. How about these dumbasses obeying the signals?

Eventually the idiots who make it a sport of going around the control arms and trying to beat the train will all be dead. And then it will stop.

Put up some electronic signage that gives an estimation of when the train will be completely passed. Maybe folks will be more hesitant to risk their lives if they can see the minutes involved.
The expense of doing this at every crossing would be massive, as well as the staff to check and monitor the signage for correctness.
Possibly worse would be the liability to the railroad, the electric company and the monitors, and there would also be the problem of how many languages do you provide, will there be a braille edition, and you can't fix stupid know-it-alls.

My question is, why can't they move the sensor that makes the arms come down farther down the track? The excuse I hear is the train goes faster than a normal freight train and the automobiles are not used to it.
Short answer, the gates and lights will come down sooner the faster the train is traveling. They don’t need to move anything.
There’s a small DC voltage set out down the track, the train completes the circuit and feeds it back to the computer that controls the lights and gates, which will sense how fast the train is traveling and insure the crossing is protected ~10 seconds before the arrival of the train, whether the train is going 10 mph or 100 mph.
As far as people getting trapped on the crossing by the gates, the gates have a small shear bolt, if you push on them, they’ll swing out of the way.
The real reason you rarely see gates protecting both lanes on both sides of the crossing is MONEY. The municipality that owns the road, pays for the crossing. Lights and gates are expensive.

Maybe tell the fricktards operating those vehicles not to go around the arms when they come down.

The train honks well before it gets near. The deaths are on the idiots that thought they could beat it. Sorry.
Still won't stop an ambulance chaser from suing the railroad

That shite would haunt me.
Train/railroad workers, along with paramedics have a very high rate of substance abuse because of all the horrific and tragic shite they see in the job And trying to cope with it afterwards.
Also flight attendants and pilots but that's for different reasons. I dated a woman once who was a nurse at a 30-day rehab place and she said that it was split like 30% railroad/30% paramedics and firemen/30% airline. Then 10% for everything else. I was surprised that there weren't more police in there.

It's a self correcting problem. I wouldn't worry about it, let Darwin sort them out.
