CSX Transportation doesn’t own and control traffic on I-10.

If it were to link all way to the east coast trains, cool, but I don’t think the Mobile limits does many people good

Does it have a shuttle running from Mobile to Orange Beach/Gulf Shores? If not, it's pretty useless.

I would think it would stop in a few beach towns along the way (I.e. Biloxi. Perdido, Orange Beach, etc.).

ETA: It stops in Bay St. Louis, Biloxi, Gulfport and Pascagoula.

Amtrak Mardi Gras is kind of gay. Are the going to have an entire holiday themed line? Amtrak to Massachusetts...The Amtrak Halloween. Amtrak to Chicago...the Amtrak Kwanzaa. Amtrak Easter. Amtrak Christmas.

Just call it the Crescent City Express like the one from Birmingham to New Orleans and rename the Birmingham one Crescent City We Will Get There Eventually.

For roads we pay tax on gasoline. Truckers pay a lot, gas and weight. It's public owned and should break even, even after the Government siphons money off the top for other expenditures

Back in the 60s the Feds finally stopped forcing the railroads to maintain passenger service. When it was officially signed, it stopped immediately. Example L&N took their rail passengers off the train in Birmingham and put them on buses to their destination .

Which private rail company do you have in mind?

Amtrak will never even sell $7million in tickets for this rail service, much less on an annual basis.

I also don’t see any national interest in spending money on this rail line so am against the entire funding of this. If the sections of the rail line are important to private industry then let industry fund it.

I don't. Could CSX do it? Why would they want to? It's not profitable. It will be a novelty run that loses money.

7 million annual subsidy and $15 / ticket, you would have to sell 1200 tickets/day to break even.

You'd have gravel roads if gas tax had to pay for the roads.

Feds stopped helping railroads and forced cars on everyone. Still subsidizing the auto industry to this day.

We use 376 million gallons of gas per day. 30 to 50 cents tax per gallon of gas. Plenty of money. Over 100 million per day. The gas tax money is siphoned off for other expenses.

"Forced cars on everyone" - People have been saving to buy cars since they hit the market over 100 years ago.

By your own math....

376MM gallons of gasoline
$0.18/g federal tax on gasoline
$68MM/day
$24.7B per year.

2022 -- $52B in fed spending on roads.

So, no. Gas tax doesn't cover it.

As they should be. We all use them/need them. No one is going to use this train filled with ghetto trash. Just like every other public transportation.

To do any business in Louisiana you have to grease the skids, if you know what I mean.

One third of that money will go to "consultants".

More times that I care to. Live in Houston. They have ruined the galleria area with their commitment to public transportation. Not to mention that the trash brought there has turned that area into a shithole.
