Whenever I see an Amex card, I see someone who has their stuff together. It's a status symbol.

I couldn't disagree with this more. It's just a credit card, and most of them are pretty easy to get.

I'll have to run the numbers, but I'm not sure it's worth it anymore, even if I max out most of the perks that I typically use.

Few months ago I went to the Centurion lounge in Atlanta and the wait was 40-50+, dad to join the digital waitlist through the app and it ended up being an hour wait.

Too many people have the card now.

Damn. That is terrible to hear.

This is one of those random things I learn from this site to avoid mistakes. I've been looking at cards with lounge access and it seems worthless now.

But I don't see how a lounge is worth $100/ visit?

Wife plus 2 kids and drinks at airport easily $100-$200. 2 trips.

By myself, easily $75 ($15 drinks x2-3 plus food and tip). 2 trips.

With biz partner, $150. 1 trip.

With miles and credits, easily worth it in my situation.
Today, flying to London. Cost me $0 with miles. Bumper to first class from Pensacola to Atlanta. Three hr layover in ATL. Bumped to first class to London.

lounges have definitely been over crowded recently, they all want you to check in in advance and wait which can make it needlessly stressful especially if the lounge is already a far walk from your gate

I max out nearly $1500 worth of perks easily. Some years >$2000 if I use all of the Airline and Hotel credit. Not even counting the lounge access. They could probably double the fee and I'd still pay it.

Jesus. Wife and I are doing well, but we certainly aren't hitting that spending limit without including mortgage. Probably even including mortgage.

Sure, but aren't the lounges like certain food and drinks? Is it open bar? Open food?

Sure you can spend $100 at the bar at an airport but its exactly what you wanted. Are you getting exactly what you wanted in the lounges? Honestly asking, because other wise its not a fair comparison at all.

I will never hate on this approach but rewards can bring in significantly higher value than this. Each have their advantages.

Chase just did this with Sapphire Reserve. We will keep ours one more year because the effective date is after our renewal, but I will be ditching it next year.

I'd be curious how? You must spend on a lot of useless crap, live in a select city with many of the items available, etc.

The problem with most of the dining perks is they forget the entire country doesn't live in NYC, Chicago, etc.

At least that's how the new CSR credits work, i imagine Amex is similar.

Military discount? That's a hell of a perk if so.

Yes they waive all their annual fees for active duty. I also have the blue cash preferred for the 6% back on groceries. Not even in anymore and they still waive them.
