These clowns will then complain about lack of federal assistance when they get older.

This may get downvotes, but I think Covid did a number on people psychologically. Even if it caused just momentary fear for the health and safety of you and your family, the reaction from many is YOLO, including taking more time off of work (retiring early, getting an easier job, etc.) and spending on experiences.

That's just another excuse. Kinda like the post Katrina excuses that keep coming out of NOLA.

It's all government fear mongering and brain washing.

I practically never go to concerts and even I see the hypocritical bullshite in that.

silent generation: Woodstock changed the world. I would give anything to live that again.

Boomer: Man you should have seen Van Halen back in the day! I would give anything to see that again!

Gen X: man you should have been at Woodstock 99! When everyone started throwing mud to “Break Stuff”, I’d give anything for that again!

Millennials/Gen Z: I miss(ed) the Warped Tour. I’ll pay $300 to go to Las Vegas and see all of those bands at “When We Were Young Fest”

Everyone else: LOOK AT THOSE STUPID YOUNG PEOPLE WASTING THEIR MONEY ON WORTHLESS EXPERIENCES AND AVOCADO TOAST!!!!

mean how many people do you know that died with tons of money in the bank and never really experienced shite or left their hometown except maybe to go to Destin or gaitlinburg? I’m all about living within your means, but like the old saying goes “you can’t take it with you when you die”. I know I’m not going to die with a million bucks just sitting in the bank

A friend of my uncle went out that way. Worked his arse off(50-60 hour weeks) for 50 years, only took a couple of vacations every 10 years, saved money, took care of his kids, did all the right things, etc. Always said he was going to wait until he retired to kick back enjoy himself. And he deserved it. He really was a great man, by all the old school standards. He finally retires and less than a month later has a massive heart attack and dies.

That story is probably more common than most realize, and a lot of the younger generations have been paying attention.

I fully expected my father to die at his desk or soon after retirement. His job was his life. However, he has absolutely found a second wind with being a grandfather. I have never seen him so happy. I hope he has a long retirement.

I think a lot of people realized how easily your livelihood can be taken away from you. Whats the point if your business can be arbitrarily ended at the will of others you have zero control over? And the government will just bail you out, they can’t afford for a mass consumer failure.

The next few years are going to be very interesting. Inflation is horrible, people are living on credit, and the bills are going to be impossible to pay. Consumer debt is a doomsday scenario for this country far worse than a real estate crash like in 09.

live it up or work hard and never enjoy life

This is the problem. Social media has skewed the definition of an "enjoyable life" and people are fricked now spending thousands to get a brief dopamine hit from the likes on their $10,000 vacation or $80,000 car. Looking for fulfillment through purchase.

You hit the nail on the head. In fact, I’m retiring in 6 years, early. I’ve had enough and want to enjoy my life for me.

Woodstock was in the late 60’s when most of the boomers were still too young to go. It would have been silent generation mostly in attendance. Same is true for woodstock 99 with respect to gen x and millennials. Oldest millennials would have been 18, but most would have still been children.

Yep, especially people who saved for a house that now seems ever out of reach.

A lot of people think AI will render the entire economic system moot.

And they're right. Everyone is waking up to how rigged the economy is. Hard to blame them.

What's scary is the young generation (that doesn't have a name yet) may be a lost generation due to our insane Covid policies with schooling. The lost IQ and developmental delays are not fixable.

They'll be blocked by millennials in the work force like Gen X was blocked by boomers invariably setting the ceiling of their generation's fate to that of the generation before them.
