I'm sure another older person said it but I learned this along time ago. It all comes down to Money & Sex.
EVERYTHING IS MONEY SEX. If they took drugs out of the equation and let doctors handle it jails would be 90% empty. Well 50% anyway

I wonder how many of those are related to weed...? No politician will stand up and speak for the legalization and taxation of marijuana.
I bet it cuts the number of incarcerated drops by 25%

I'd also like to add that the US has an industrial prison complex problem. Our system is geared towards more arrests because that's profitable.

Privatization of the prison industry. Rehabilitation became throw them in a cell and lose the key. I would imagine repeat offender stats would look just as bad too. The ones that do get out can’t readjust to society because no one bothered to prepare them.

politicians began teaming up with business investors to build privately owned medium security prisons in La in the 80s. Most people incarcerated in La are federal prisoners being held in a facility in La so it distorts the statistics.

If this takes into account Federal prisons, then the numbers are skewed. You have Pollock and Oakdale detention centers with thousands of detainees and inmates.

It’s pretty obvious. Louisiana simply has a disproportionately higher amount of criminals on average than the rest of the nation does on a whole, and an ever more higher number than other nations. There’s simply no other way to say it if you’re being honest about it.

Ending THE war on drugs is something I would rather rally behind than shine someone's shoes. Thats the truth! I already got canceled so what so I care?
It is police reform that is needed. I was as poor as ANYONE in this State when I was a child.. black or white! Not every family has generational wealth... or even working automobiles. But that doesn't change the fact that THE WAR on drugs is racist, immoral and an abject failure.
