Not all Californians are liberal shite bags. I have a friend north of L.A. that is as MAGA as they come. I do get your point though.

I just can't bring myself to feel that way. Some of them are just regular people who somehow became famous due to the career path they took.
I'm sure I don't agree with at least 80% of them (probably more)- but they're still Americans facing an apocalyptic disaster. No one deserves to go through something like that.
I would really like to see some of them who happen to be celebrities DEMAND answers from their so-called leadership on why more steps aren't being taken to deal with the water issue. The lack of serious wildfire abatement programs. There is no viable reason for continuing to do nothing in the name of "saving the environment" when the environment is burning down around you.
Blaming this on global warming is lazy- and the default answer from those who care more about their agenda than lives and property.
Banning the gas engine will not fix this problem.
Their policies are insane to me.

well sure you can buy new stuff - but you cannot replace lost family heirlooms, photo's, personalized items of value to you.
you can buy a new wooden table, you cannot buy a new wooden table hand crafted and passed down multiple generations.
people will come out stronger, but they are people and deserve some sympathy for what they are enduring - regardless of who they are.

I can certainly understand not wanting to bail them out. But I absolutely do feel for anyone who lost their sentimental possessions.

Sympathy is free. It takes time and resources to really help...

People that bought there years ago and inherited from their parents. They will have to relocate. The coastal commission is going to fight everything, then city and county permits, then the way more expensive building codes. The “multimillion” dollar homes is not accurate. The lots are probably 90% of the value. The structures were old. But now will be nightmare for decent contractors to build, etc. and labor costs will skyrocket

This is interesting. A lot of people on TD think that people on the West Coast look down at Southerners. The truth is, they just don’t care. They don’t think about you. They don’t think about Louisiana … they just don’t care. But people in Louisiana think about Californians because of monetary jealousy. Which I guess is understandable.

…losing their homes to fires?
Well, I do have sympathy for anyone who loses something not of their own fault.
But as I said in the other thread, if the state of California had focused on it's infrastructure and legal citizens instead of being a sanctuary state and pouring billons of dollars into that, they would have had money for water and fire fighters.

Not joking or being crass but this thing will make for some interesting episodes of Million Dollar Listing LA.

My house burned down when I was in the sixth grade, 5 days before Christmas. While I know it’s not the same. I know what it feels like to be displaced and lose everything. At a young age it was very traumatic. I still have a fear of my house burning down.
Serious character flaw If you don’t feel compassion and sadness for all these people.

Depends, really.
Are you a leftist that wants your fellow Americans jailed or killed because they don't agree with you? Did you mock people in the South who lost everything in hurricanes or tornadoes? Then, yes. Frick you.
If you didn't do either of the above, then I have sympathy for you.

Some of the comments I've read over the past few days reveal that a lot of celebrities thought it couldn't happen to them. That their money and status would shield them from the worst effects of climate chang ... er, sorry ... "weather events."
Ironically, money actually works against you in a lot of these cases, as rich people love to congregate in beautiful places that are susceptible to fire or hurricanes or flooding, etc.

Movie ticket prices just went up five bucks. Bring your own popcorn and snow caps.

Every one of those houses will be rebuilt in 5 years and we'll be the ones paying for it.

Don't you have your own life's concerns to attend to?

We should all have this fear because this is a real threat. House fire can happen to anyone.

Maybe you're just trash.
Sure, they can rebuild but they've also lost personal affects, pictures, memorabilia that can't be reclaimed.

Wait a minute, any home near the fire areas is worth in the millions, they keep saying homes passed down and this and that but real estate is insane in those areas. Just like Denver and Boulder Colorado, no cheap real estate it’s a myth.
