No doubt.
Geographically most of the State is Republican. Theyre just outnumbered along that narrow coastal strip.
Losing a house isnt that traumatic if you have money, but no amount of money can replace a home. Losing a home is a life changing event for anyone.

agreed - sure the rich have the money to recover - but they likely lost all of their personal effect like family heirlooms, kids of their kids, old family photos - things that cannot be replaced.
as a decent Human, I do feel sorry for everyone that is impacted - but then again I can look past all the political bullshite, the blame being cast around and see it as a people being affected - no matter who, how much money, gender, creed, religion - none of it matters.

It's possible to compartmentalize your feelings. Rich self-important folks in Palisades and Malibu are hard to root for. But Altadena is a regular middle-to-upper class community, where people have real jobs, just like most of the people you know and work with all over the country. I feel really bad for them.

They may have tons of money but at the end of the day they are just regular people.

Exactly, the things that make a house a home.
I read where some people lost their home of 40 or more years. Thats a lifetime of memories gone....

I feel for anyone losing their possessions, momentos, family heirlooms and their home. I can’t imagine watching your material life burn to the ground

From WSJ
That is tragic.

A preliminary aerial survey indicated that approximately 5,316 structures might have been destroyed by the Palisades fire, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said Thursday. The Palisades fire was 6% contained by Thursday evening
That is tragic.

How many “regular folks” live in the Pacific Palisades or Malibu? This is some of the most expensive real estate on the planet.
I don’t really know LA well but looks like 16k acres have been damaged in Altadena, West Hills, Sylmar, and Acton
From wiki (and a bit old from 2010)

According to the 2010 United States Census, Altadena had a median household income of $82,895,

Karma for what? Not sharing your opinions?

That’s just wrong…. I’m not rhch at all but heave been through 2 different events and lost everything. It’s brutal no matter if you are rich or poor.

That’s my point. They voted for Kamala but now they will think twice about who they vote for

They’ve pretty much made their own bed here. I know some people clutch their pearls anytime someone make things like this “political”, but how a government responds to such a disaster is tied very much to politics. And the simple truth is the people of California have for decades elected leaders who have put into place policies that make made this disaster as bad as it is. I’m talking about things such as refusal to manage their forests properly by clearing away dead underbrush, and culling trees. And doing things like destroying dams that feed much needed reservoirs in order to save a freaking minnow. And hiring and promoting firefighters to check off DEI boxes instead of based on merit. And even cutting fire fighting budgets. All these things were done by the political leadership in California, leadership that the people of California themselves chose to put into power.
They’ve made their own bed. Now they have to lay in it. The old saying is true, no matter how much people want to lie to themselves as say otherwise…. Elections have consequences. And we’re seeing those consequences right now.

…losing their homes to fires?
I feel evil, but I can’t seem to get too upset about it.
Maybe it’s jealously because I don’t get to live in Malibu, maybe it’s because is CA liberals, maybe it’s because I despise the LA “look at me” culture…I don’t know.
Maybe it’s because I doubt any of these folks blinked an eye when Harvey flooded Houston or Katrina devastated NOLA or Laura mowed over Lake Charles and SW LA.
I am feeling guilty because I should be sympathetic, but I can’t seem to muster any sympathy.
Is that just me?
Are you a christian?

This is a pretty shitty take. You don’t like how West Coast views you, so your response is to do the very thing you despise?
It’s possible to not lump everybody into one category. Not every single person out there that lost a home was elite or a celeb.
NO and BR have had a history of Dim leadership, does that mean they voted for disasters?

How often did she look at it?
My mom's (she would have been 95 this year) sat on a shelf for her entire life and I saw her look at it once when she showed it to me.
It's just a thing. She has her memories.

I wonder the percent of people who lost a home in cali that also have at least one other home elsewhere? 80% 90%?
Thousands and thousands of structures have been destroyed in areas where the median income is less than 100k.

Whole lot of moral snobs here. First frick you all. Second I am with you. It’s ok to feel that way. It’s actions that matter. frick you judgmental fricks throwing politics in. Counts

I wonder how much a lot of these self-absorbed posters in here donated?
Certainly, with their pious opinions they always stoop to help a fellow man?
