No

Ft Worth has a distinct character. Dallas is a generic, soulkilling collection of people from other places praying for an opportunity to get away.

Look along the Alliance Corridor. Due north of FW, just south of the Racetrack
Place is booming. Can get decent new homes for cheap. Rented at first, bought a townhome near the 820-35 interchange. Prices appreciated 30% in 18 months.
Couldn’t be happier. Less than 20 min commute for my job, and right around a half hour drive to get into Dallas or Arlington for entertainment.

Me and my wife are in that same income range and have lived in Dallas for three years with no problems. We don’t have kids though.
Dallas is massive but it’s not some hip urban utopia. You can find all those things you’re looking for, but not in one place. It will take time to discover what you’re looking for.
I know nothing about Fort Worth, but I’ve heard it’s better than you think.

He was probably thinking of the Stockyards, not nesscessarily downtown.

Yes sir.
Spend some time in each city to see for yourself.
If you like valet parking, false pretentiousness and fake-arse try hards, Dallas is your city.

See, I don't like those things at all.
I'll be coming from Birmingham, AL. Pretty laid back and friendly here. Much smaller though. It's nice being able to live so close to downtown in a nice house that's affordable.

I'd rather live in Fort Worth than Dallas

If you'd actually visit the downtown and other areas, you'd see there's a rising art culture scene. You'd prob have a better time breaking in there than Dallas, as the people are a bit easier to deal with as a newcomer. I'd feel stupid moving to place simply based upon a cursory view online.

Basically, unless you are looking at getting a super urban condo where you don’t even need to get in a car to “hit the town,” stick with FW. You will spend more time commuting than you will going out, and a bad commute can actually prohibit it.
With careful site choice, you can make the heading over to Dallas very quick and easy if you want to do something there.

Don't let these retards who live in LP give you advice. Ft. Worth is really nice and feels much smaller than Dallas (because it is). However, Dallas is an awesome place to live as well. With all of that said, if you are working in Dallas, you can't live in Ft. Worth. It's like 45 miles and during commute time it will be traffic the whole way. You'll be in your car at least 2 hours both ways. If you are working close to Plano or Frisco or Allen, they really are family suburban paradise. Everything is brand new, but it is suburbia. These idiots here will tell you how awful it is while living in Livingston Parish going to Bass Pro Shops on the weekend. It really is a place where your kids will have something different to do every weekend.
If you have any idea where exactly you might be I can give you more details.

I live in Irving and love it here.
But having to commute to Fort Worth everyday would suck arse.

I live in south Arlington and work in Ft Worth. Ft Worth is a great city with lots to do. 7th street, Magnolia St and around Sundance Square all have plenty of restaurants, bars and live music.

Well, we’re at $75k combined right now and I’m struggling to find a full time job. I work 3pm-8pm most weekdays and miss seeing my kids. Sometimes work Saturdays as well.
And it’s BHam to Ft Worth. I just don’t know anything about Ft Worth and wondered if commuting from Dallas was worth it.

Northwest Ft Worth near the airport is the job location.
