It was a PR stunt. Broome and Paul said they can’t arrest their way out of this situation. Paul said his officers are arresting the same people over and over and they actually threw blame at the 19th JDC.
Paul said there are 8 gangs in BR and that violence is “looming.”
Kiran asked about the witness. Paul said he doesn’t exist. Another rep with BRPD got up there and was very defensive and called it a “hideous rumor.”
After the press conference, Kiran live-streamed an interview with the Shed owner and the dad. The shed owner met with Broome and Paul privately after the press conference. Midway through, he said Broome stopped and said “I’m sorry but I just feel like I’m being recorded.” The owner also gave Paul his cell phone number so that he can send him the witnesses contact info. Paul never reached out.
The Shed owner said they spoke to a business in the area who has cameras and that BRPD never asked for their footage. The owner and the Dad both mentioned speaking directly to the witness. The witness even gave them the name of the detective he spoke to and they mentioned that detectives name on the live stream. shite show.

thank you.
wow, just wow. the incompetence within BRPD leadership and lack of interest from the mayor’s office is worst than we expected then. I don’t know how this girl’s father can take this all without snapping. I’d be pacing a hole in the floor.

The same dog and pony show. SWB promoted her programs. They said the witness that Kiran Chawla did a report on doesn't exist. MP repeating what SWB told him to say.

Thanks Chris. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. And if I had to guess WBRZ, WAFB, and The Advocate sat their quietly and had 0 further questions or anything to report later.

At this stage, they’re going to whip out this angle? Shame the local media don’t call BRPD on this. Fear of the race card has made people cowards. If you don’t stand up for this, what are you waiting to stand up for?

Later that evening, WAFB reported how BRPD labeled the witness story as “misinformation.” And instead of mentioning Kiran by name, they used the words “reported by another outlet.” They’re definitely all in cahoots (Broome, Paul, local media).
ETA: Nak finally did a hit piece on the 19th JDC yesterday highlighting the constant release of violent criminals.

i'm getting angrier by the day
you know damn good and well the mayor is going to be getting wasted watching football games today
police chief probably going to spend all day around ascension parish, since you know, that's where he lives
they couldn't give two fricks about Allison

so we’re still letting career criminals off easy in BR, but this is a “hideous rumor”. LINK

Only because SWB and MP gave him permission to

I didn’t watch the press conference. I didn’t want to break anything including my hand.

I can hear the conversation now:
SWB: "Chris, you're fine to do a stiory on the 19th JDC.. Just as long as you don't say anything bad about me or Murphy. Also, you have to let us watch it first just to check."

Their press conference the other day was proof. They were all about defending their image and deflecting blame to the courts. It’s a perfect strategy, to be honest, because the courts are mostly to blame for letting these thugs back on the streets. Problem is the police are essentially saying “ we’re useless because it’s up to the courts to keep you safe and not us”.

If you decide to go back and watch it, watch it from Kiran's page. You get to enjoy firsthand the absolute hatred they have for her as they glare angrily right at her camera while spluttering buzzwords and calling her story bullshite.
ETA: There's also a follow up video she has where she tries to interview the owner of The Shed for the first time following that presser, and when it's her turn to talk to him, someone from the Mayor's office comes and drags him off camera.

I was curious to see the number of murders under SWB vs the number of murders under Kip. I posted them several pages back, but numbers speak for themself. In Kip's final year there were 46 homicides. SWB takes over January 2nd, 2017 and that year there were 89 homicides.
Under Kip, there were 2 years where the number of homicides were just over 70 (and in those years you can argue that it was due to people who came to Baton Rouge after Katrina and there were several years after that the numbers were higher, but then they drop down).
In SWBs first year, the number of homicides was like 13 or 14 more than the most homicides in a year under Kip.
Crime in general went up. The police department went from a police chief who was respected, who was "one of them". To a SWB puppet who no one had respect for and there is a lack of man power because of the number of officers who quit under MP..
So based on the numbers, anytime he says "we will do better, we have to do better, blah blah", its just a line of bullshite because he (or SWB since she micromanages the BRPD) has pretty much run the police department into the ground.

They truly are tone deaf idiots, last weekend an LSU student is gunned down at a railroad crossing , this morning they have an officer standing in the middle lane at the railroad crossing of Brightside and Nicholson writing inspection sticker tickets , I know the officer is just doing his job but the optics are terrible
