If you are working at LSUA,
I went to LSUA a few semesters. The campus is pretty shitty. At least there is a golf course. Worked there and played a lot of golf there. It's not fancy but green fees were ridiculously cheap.

I feel qualified to answer this question, been living in Alexandria over 40 years. If you are young and single looking for quality night-life, you are probably going to be miserable here. However, if you are into the outdoors and enjoy hunting, fishing, golfing, there are some good options for that. If you have children, the public school system is average. Some schools are disasters and need to be avoided, and others are solid. You will be able to identify them easily based on the demographics of the school, a sad and unfortunate fact, but true nonetheless. Central location of the city makes it easy to get to most places in the state in 2 hours or less and traffic is rarely an issue within the city. I can get around town to any location in 15 minutes or less, regardless of the time of day.

Check out the apartment complex at the lakes. Can't rember the exact name. Spirits for drinks. Tunks has a "nice" oyster bar on the water (food pretty much sucks), Robbie g's has good fried seafood. It's far from as bad as everyone makes it out and east driving distance to laffy, br and nola. If you're into outdoorsy stuff it's great.

I grew up out towards LSUA and like that area a lot...of course, I like living in rural areas. I would say that if you like big-city type stuff, then Alexandria will be a dissapointment. However, if your expectations are reasonable for a town that size, you will be fine with it. I know there are some apartments on LSUA campus...is there a possibility that you could stay there?

I'm looking at every option available

Check out the area around LA College in Pineville. Might find something on or around there, but on a lesser scale due to the school being smaller.
For a town its size, Alex is no better or worse than most any other similar-sized town although it likely has more outdoor-oriented activities due to the large forests nearby

Damn skippy. I didn't take me long to figure it out either. Usually followed by, " I'm not raising you to love me. I'm raising you to be a fuctioning member of society".

Like any other town, it's what you make of it. I have lived in the area most of my life other than finishing undergrad and grad degrees in Monroe and doc degree in Minneapolis. The area's good if you want to raise a family. If the nest is empty and you are looking for more of a nightlife, Lafayette, Bossier, and BR are only a couple of hours away. Airport is ok. Restaurants? Depends upon your preferred cuisine. However, if you want to live in an area where you can do your own thing and not be bothered, yet willing to make a short run to a bigger town for nightlife, it's not a bad place. There are several industries in the process of locating to the area, including an aluminum plant at the old IP plant. The downtown area of Alexandria will pick up some after the Hotel Bentley is fully re-opened, and the Tech/Community College is relocated downtown.

If you enjoyed the movie "Deliverance" you'll love Alexandria. I lived there about a year and a half and it felt like a decade.

Well, there is a giant, wooded, inexplicable roundabout in the middle of town...There is a strip club. A Chili's....Ummmm
In all seriousness, Kincaid Rec area is a great asset if you prefer outdoor activities like hiking, camping, Mt. biking.
There is NO traffic.
Pineville (across the river) seems to export a inordinate amount of good looking women to Baton Rouge and other larger cities with Universities. So catch em while you can.
The older, more establish, Garden district type neighborhoods are very cool (Much Better than BR IMO).
If you hook up with the right crowd, you won't lack for things to do...
