I'm surprised and a little shocked at the OT for their lack of scoffing at a keg beer/wine only reception.

Id say you need at least another keg. Should be good on the wine.

You think 100 people are going to down a bottle each at a wedding reception? I understand it is a 3 hour reception, but that's stretching it. You'll have about half that will have a drink or two and stop.

Also, what time of year, and will the reception be outside or indoors? One of my sisters got married in South Alabama in the summer with an outdoor reception. Dad had bought a bunch of liquor, but we ended up bringing more than half of what he bought home, and there was no beer left. Most people don't want to drink bourbon when it is 90 degrees and you're in a suit or a tux.

Might as well go to Trader Joes and 3 buck chuck that reception

Weddings and frat parties are one in the same in Louisiana, huh?

I'd advise against kegs and opt for more cans and bottles (if the venue allows them).

I know kegs are cheaper, but kegs take time pumping, can become too foamy, and can create long lines. Just a tip. Also, they have calculators plastered throughout the internet that can really help out.

Also, when in doubt, buy more. You never want to run out.

5 kegs all tapped and spread around the room to reduce lines.

Yep. Maybe one by the bar with the wine, and a couple other spots with a pair each. Away from corners so a line can form for each keg.

Last summer we went to a wedding, and the reception was indoors. The bar was back in the corner, and the food along one wall, buffet style. While everyone was getting food, several of us went to the bar. After everyone was seated, the line at the bar was like 40 people, with two poor bartenders trying to keep up. Would have been much better if they had beer at a separate spot to free up some space.

If you want your relatives and friends to be just as or more messed up than you, then you need some liquor.

You can always get 1/6th barrel kegs, if you fear having too much beer. By getting the smaller kegs you can also diversify the beer choices

Just hand out a bottle of wine to the wine drinkers as they arrive. They can slug it right out of the bottle. If you invite Mary Landrieu you'll have to get a few extra kegs.

Change that keg number from 2 to 4, change that wine number from 100 (really?) to 50, and buy 20 bottles of Old Charter.

I have an uncle that tried to keep things classy, and only served wine and champagne. Everyone in my family are beer drinkers. I've never seen everyone get so thoroughly trashed. Kegs are key.

I'm getting married next year. We got the full bar. Don't be a cheap bastard. If you wanna save money on the wedding, don't do it on the alcohol.

Have a Baptist wedding. Finger sandwiches, cake and non alcoholic punch. Save many thousands of dollars.
