This is a sincere question.
I've never personally faced an issue of addiction but like everyone else I've had a family member/friend suffer from addiction so I ask this in love.
A lot of people just judge, others just make excuses.
Im asking those that actually suffer from the issue
Look we all have flaws, so Im not suggesting your flaws are greater than mine. So don't get all defensive you fricking pussies.

This will end well.
I mean there is a chance, albeit slim. that a thread of mine is taken seriously

I know that this may sound a bit dumb but, it has been my opinion that, in some cases, alcoholics are labeled by how they act while drinking rather than how much they drink.
I've known many people who are real alcoholics and have to have a shot at the bottle when they wake in the morning. however, a lot of people from La that drink in the evenings regularly are labeled as alcoholics simply by the way that some of them act.
for example, owl- if you and I drink a case of beer and then go to the club. you are the one that is puking and picking fights with everyone and i'm just chilling in my seat at the bar. voila- most will say that you are the alky and i'm not. not fair.

My mother was addicted to cocaine for a long time. She has been clean for years now, but absolutely identifies as weak.

Everyone has something they can't control.
I've never understood addiction to alcohol, drugs, or tobacco. My weakness is good food.
And pussy.
I seriously cannot be friends with women or drink in excess around them. I acknowledge it, and I don't do it. Keeps me faithful.

I don't think weak is the right word. More like defenseless

I consider myself stronger now that I am sober.

Considering I live among heavy drinkers here in Louisiana, I think I'm a strong person for being able to turn down drinks on a regular basis.
Having said that, I'm not an alcoholic by the classic definition. I was never addicted to alcohol. My drinking did start to effect my life so I put an end to it.
The answer to your question is yes and no.

Imagine saying to yourself all day that you aren't gonna drink that night , but come 5:00 or 3 or 4 that temporary insanity sets in and before you know it it's too late and you have to try and start over the next day
