When it comes to getting fricked up? I'm very weak. I can't not get fricked up.

But I'm pretty strong when it comes to most other things.

Imagine saying to yourself all day that you aren't gonna drink that night , but come 5:00 or 3 or 4 that temporary insanity sets in and before you know it it's too late and you have to try and start over the next day
OK

were you able to ask those around you to keep you from drinking or was the shame too great? Were there too many enablers around you or not enough understanding of the issue ?

Thank for the response

No I do not and without posting a bunch of text from the AA Big Book defenseless is a good way to describe it.

Nobody could stop me from getting loaded. If I can't stop myself, how are you going to stop me?

No shame involved. 99% of the drinking is at home so there's no running around getting into trouble. Don't get angry so there's no fighting or anything........

I notice it kept me from doing other weekend activities I enjoy, hunting and fishing mostly. I'm still halfway through, but waking up on the weekends with no hangover is awesome.

I also notice it was becoming an addiction and quit ahead of time. Its an all or nothing for me. I can't "have a few" and stop.

That's how I was. I could never just have a drink or two. If I started, it ended up being rock star quality.

When Im banned ( which is often) I do just fine. I have no alters( which might be a sign of addiction to TD) but I will openly admit I enjoy posting here.

most of the time its just for shits and giggles occasionally, like now, I engage in a more serious discussion

Yeah these people who order a glass of wine with dinner and that's all they drink, I never could understand that, once I start I don't stop, and that little mental twist of it's going to different this time is a stone bitch.

Until a person you intimately know (sibling, spouse, child, parent)becomes addicted, then it is difficult to provide an honest opinion.

Now that I have experienced it, I can answer with a question for you....."So what if they are weak?"

You are taught that in order to control your addiction then you need to know that you are week and others around you need to know it as well.

EVERYONE has weaknesses...it is just how you control it and knowing that you need help from others to control it.

Since you have no experience with addiction, let me tell you what I know:

My son was an alcoholic. He was one of the strongest individuals I have ever been around. He battled his demons daily for many years before succumbing.

There was no weakness in his character. There was a terrible disease that he battled continuously.

How much he accomplished in his short life is amazing to me, still. He was brilliant, and motivated, and a hard worker.

I lost my son 22 months ago. He was 28. I am, today, so very proud of him, because I witnessed his battles and saw his strength.

He was a fighter that lost to a terrible and fatal disease.
