OK so if it goes to Fairhope how far to the East do winds extend? Just wondering for winds in Destin. Friends parent is freaking out and likely not letting her come with us.
Not sure if you saw it, but I posted a Destin evacuation map. Even places immediately on the beach aren't in the evacuation zones unless it's a Cat 3.

Saturday in a condo 7th floor in Destin about .5 miles from Jetty East.
Someone linked the evac zones and it's in a zone for Cat 2. This dad is freaking out and it's making me worry --- wasn't really concerned until he said she can't come.
Yes Slack I did and it was helpful ... cat 2 would require evac for the area where we'll be. We'd be Zone B off of Gulf Sore Drive.
I'm trying to decide if I'm not concerned enough, if my husband doesn't love me enough to be concerned OR if this dad is overreacting. I choose the dad overreacting but it is his kid.
Appreciate the info.

Are you banking on TS at landfall? Any reason to think otherwise?

How long is your trip? Saturday until when?

Traveling Saturday will be fine. No worse than (numerous) summertime thunderstorms. 7th floor of condo will be fine. Y'all will get a ton of rain though.

Saturday until Saturday .. I really don't want to take a chance and weather still be crap to drive in on Tuesday. About 6.5 hour drive give or take.
I was really 100% ok with going alone with 3 girls until one dad said NO.

You will be fine in a condo unless it changes big time. Its very likely to be nothing more than a bad thunderstorm with some occasional gusty winds.

I agree ... traveling Saturday is way less risky than putting it off and heading out Tuesday or WEdnesday in my opinion.

Getting to hurricane is possible but i have a hard time thinking it will. While shear will relax there is still going to be dry air hanging around that will limit the strengthening. There does appear to be a window before landfall for it to ramp up but I'm not sure it'll be together enough to take full advantage.

Good to hear, thanks for the info

Been through several TS on the panhandle coast. Expect some water rise and tornado warnings/watches. Never lost power. Water receded the next morning. Aside from tornado activity (usually more of a threat further north onshore) it should be a non issue.

The dad is overreacting. It's May, not early September. There are limits to how strong the storm could get. Furthermore, Alberto ended up close to Destin at landfall would very likely be a weaker and more sheared storm.
I wouldn't say go to Orange Beach for this but Destin should be fine wind/surge wise. The only issue is a lot of rain and having a bunch of teenage girls stuck inside for a day or two. I'd bring extra wine.

1st dropsonde is down... granted it's in the middle of the GoM and not in the storm

I think they're just nuts -- the mom said something about if we were going to Gulf Shores that would be different. I was like look ... whatever.
