Anyone have data re: storm surge in Destin area? Dtr had 2 friends coming and now one can't as her dad is worried about surge as we'd be on the east side (as of now). My husband is only worried about us traveling and not the actual storm. Help with info anyone?

The storm surge from a TS/Cat 1 is unlikely to be more than 3-5 feet, if that.

So is her dad overreacting or am I being a bad mom and not reacting enough?? I mean worst case scenario my car floods and my husband comes to get us, right?? We won't be out in bad weather.

, I mean, worst case scenario could be far worse than that, but there is zero indication that you should have any problems at this point.

ETA - Destin Evacuation Zones.

He laughs at this little thunderstorm. If it's not at least a Cat3 it ain't worth his time

Sounds like something you’d keep your stripper on.

OK so if it goes to Fairhope how far to the East do winds extend? Just wondering for winds in Destin.

Friends parent is freaking out and likely not letting her come with us.

When are you traveling? Where are you staying (condo or house)? I wouldn't want to be right on the beach in a house, but on the other side of the highway in a condo is probably fine. Look up Okaloosa (or Walton) County evacuation zones and notices. Compare to your spot on the map. Pay attention to specific surge forecasts.

Also as long as the track stays near MS/AL I wouldn't expect surge in Destin to be too bad with a strong TS.

It'll be windy but you wouldn't expect much more than minimal TS stuff for a bit and that's just because it's right on the water.

It's a rain story still much more than a wind/surge story unless you're right where it goes in.
