The second a public university makes one of these "certain races allowed only" safe spaces a real thing, a white person needs to go in to the safe space and records what happens.
What would happen? Would the white person be physically removed by campus police? If so, boom, lawsuit. There would be no legal standing to enforce it.

What if they wanted to take down status and change the name of the stadium. Then it gets interesting.

Just talking about this with a friend and we seemed to conclude that college kids are self obsessed brats. There's a plethora of things that deserve protesting; two wars, refugees fleeing another war, actual police violence and racial profiling, shady banking practices, etc etc
College protests used to be about helping others or furthering a cause. Now they just want to feel special.

The Machine is the name of an entity at Alabama that allegedly controls the workings of the University
I heard two co-workers mention this a while back in a cryptic conversation...it was super weird.
The conversation I heard went something along the lines of "hey sally, did you hear the machine did X" "yes billy, the machine is very active right now. One day the machine will be exposed..."

When is the Bama president and chancellor announcing their resignations?
Posted on 11/19/15 at 6:22 pm to stlslick
Their first and most important demand should be for Alabama to have a black head football coach.

This is further dividing us ALL over again. Imagine a foreign student coming over here and being told they can't go to certain places because they aren't allowed. How backwards will we have become as a nation. We should be considered equal. A black only place to feel safe.. That's so fricking racist it just blows my mind.
I agree with this part. My response was sarcastic, as in brining is back to the 50s and early 60s.

Essentially they want the university to "recognize and admit" that there is a racial issue on campus and take steps to better diversify the university
No, they essentially want special treatment based on race, sex, or sexual orientation. Or in other words they are begging for the right to discriminate against others that are different.
The are ignorant spoiled brats that should be encouraged to leave that fine institution immediately and be mercilessly ridiculed for being disgusting bigots.

Yeah majority of this shite is ridiculous, extremely. However, people will be people.

I have made myself the president of the university and my response to the list of demands, below.
Use left justify, don't use all caps, don't bold. And especially, don't increase the font 500%, bold, declaring a list of "demands".
By item:
1. No. All necessary resources for diversity and equity are established at the university and funded by the people of Alabama. The creation of new divisions based on nothing more than a list of demands is irresponsible and betrays the trust that people of this state have placed in administrators. All concerns regarding equity should be addressed to appropriate university offices, or if concerns arise about equity in a legal context, the State's Attorney can be contacted.
2. Once the student group supplies the names and buildings they deem objectionable, along with evidence to substantiate the objections, then such evidence will be submitted to a third party for evaluation. If it is deemed factually accurate and compelling, this will move forward.
3. No. Evaluate the services provided by the offices mentioned and provide a proposed mission statement for each, along with a needs assessment highlighting what gaps are perceived to exist, separating current and desired capabilities. Then submit a reorganization plan that is budget-neutral, and sustainable. If budget shortfalls cannot be mitigated by reorganization, propose plan to fill in the gaps such that the university remains budget neutral. University administrators will take all submitted materials into consideration. At no time will funds be increased simply due to a demand. As a public university and a steward of public resources, it is irresponsible to consider such requests. Due diligence will be followed with regard to funding decisions.
4. Office space and infrastructure will be provided, for volunteers to utilize, for one year, in order to re-establish the Black Alumni Network. The network went away for a reason: either due to no interest or because it was ineffective, or because it was unwanted by black alumni, or because of cost. Show that it can be sustained, budget-neutral, and that it will benefit the university and alumni. At that point the university will formally re-establish the network.
5. No. The university itself is a funded program for collaborative initiatives between all students and faculty. Education is a collaborative endeavor. Other initiatives which require external funding may submit application to the university, requesting allocation of discretionary funds. Alternatively, faculty can seek funding from outside agencies through the extramural grant program.
6. As a public institution, mechanisms are already established for the reporting of crime. Grievances regarding the mechanisms in place should be documented and submitted to the appropriate office on campus, or alternatively, to the nearest State's Attorney office.
7. No. Suitable electives already exist in the course catalog.
8. Feedback is always encouraged and evaluated. If there are deficiencies with the 2008 plan, submit feedback. Those concerns will be addressed by the university. If it is determined that the plan needs to be updated, it will be updated and all students will be given an opportunity to provide input. Administrators at the university have been hired and are entrusted with the responsibility of drafting and approving these and similar items. That responsibility will be met in an open and transparent manner, and will not be ducked or delegated to students.
9. No. If students do not feel safe on campus, they should immediately file sworn statements with the campus police so that investigations can be undertaken and threats removed. As written, this item appears to be aimed at segregation and exclusion. The university does not condone and will not facilitate the segregation and / or exclusion of students based on race or ethnicity.
10. To obtain such a quota, existing faculty and staff have to be fired. If the student group identifies faculty and staff it believes should be fired, then they are to contact the dean of the college, or division chief, to which that faculty or staff member belongs and seek to initiate termination of that individual. Due process of existing faculty and staff will not be compromised. In any event, however, subsequent hiring decisions will not be based on anything other than applicant quality.
11. Ambiguous statements such as this cannot be suitably replied to without additional information.

They want a "blacks only" area on campus. That's completely backwards.
Some people are absolutely bent on being miserable even when surrounded by a college campus full of things to do.

1. Why do we need to fund a women's center? Most college students are female. They're not a minority.
2. Increase black faculty? So you want to hire people based off the color of their skin? What about Native Americans? What about South Americans? Why not choose the best candidates for the job, not basing hiring off skin color? Aren't we trying to make race a non issue. This is exactly opposite of what they're crying for.
