Why use nitrogen? Why not use carbon monoxide? CO just puts you to sleep, and you never wake up. Very peaceful. I’d imagine less death row convicts would be upset about that

Pretty sure this clown requested this method of execution.

It’s almost time for kickoff

Nitrogen is probably cheaper, less dangerous to everyone else.

Is there a stream?

Hypoxia is similar to drowning but slower.
The desire to breathe isn’t based on the amount of oxygen you have. It’s the pH of your blood. (Which is driven down when you have a build up of C02)
Being able to breathe in pure nitrogen means no oxygen is going in, but you still can exhale the CO2, and therefore no pH drop.
It’s the same reason why carbon monoxide poisoning can wipe out a family: the monoxide blocks the oxygen from going into the blood, so they can fade away with little symptoms. (What little symptoms they have is because it’s not 100% effective like complete nitrogen flooding/immersion due to low concentration of monoxide)

Just the stream of liberal tears over the death of a murdering POS

Mr. Smith had eaten his last meal on Thursday morning: a T-bone steak, hash browns, toast and eggs, all from Waffle House and slathered with A1 steak sauce.
Per reports.

I'd always heard it as based on the CO2 levels in your lungs. But the pH of the blood makes at least as much sense. Either way, the body knows there is a problem VERY quickly. Except in nitrogen hypoxia - there is absolutely no abnormal feeling at all.

Nothing that is done to Kenneth Smith is as cruel as what he did to the victim.

Dissolved CO2 in blood is carbonic acid. More co2, more acid, lower pH, increased urgency to breathe, and do so rapidly.

I googled his name, and every entry on the front page was a pity party about the method of execution. There was never any discussion about the seriousness of someone being a hit man, killing someone for money.

I will never for the life of me understand why we make killing someone so damned complicated.
The process to get to the point of killing them should be difficult, complex, and arduous, but there is zero reason for the execution itself to be as frustratingly complex and difficult as it is.

Update 6:50 p.m.: U.S. Supreme Court denies Smith’s request to stay tonight’s execution. The execution is proceeding.

Just slip some fentanyl in his water and call it a day

al.com is having an absolute freak out over it.
They didn't know the victim. Liz Sennett was a sweet, kind lady who was devoted to God, her family, and her church. She was the kind of person who would cook a meal for a family with a new baby, take groceries to people who had no food, and collect clothes for people who had lost homes to fire or a tornado. She didn't deserve what happened to her.

Doesn't bicarbonate buffer in blood keep it within 7.35-7.45 range?
Very tight.
Posted on 1/25/24 at 8:00 pm to Privateer 2007
No.
Blood is buffered, and that is the range the body likes to be at, but it’s not bicarbonate alone that maintained that.
As stated, natural rate of respiration is a huge component. It routinely falls out of the range you said, but the body works hard to pull it back. It’s main systems of control are in the lungs and the kidneys.
After a hard anaerobic workout that has you hunched over and gasping, your blood ph is almost 7.0
