CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - First responders are on the scene of a deadly crash involving several boats taking part in a fishing tournament on Smith Lake in Cullman County.

Major League Fishing (MLF) confirms the crash involves angler Flint Davis of Leesburg, Georgia. He was part of the Tackle Warehouse Invitational.

The Cullman County Coroner confirms there is one fatality in the crash, however it is unclear who the fatality is at this time.

“Out of respect for those involved, and to ensure the accuracy of all information, no further details will be released at this time. MLF is working closely with law enforcement and emergency officials. Additional updates will be provided as they are confirmed by the appropriate authorities. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest concern are with everyone affected by this tragic incident,” said Joe Opager with Major League Fishing.

I've never understood why the Bassholes drive so crazy trying to get to their "spot".

Some reservoirs are HUGE, for instance Toledo Bend is 65 miles long and you want to travel as quickly as possible.

MLF confirmed that Flint Davis, a competitor from Leesburg, Georgia, was involved in the boating accident.

Sounds like they were all driving in thick fog when the boats crashed into each other.

Wonder if the motor coming off and flying back into the boat killed the dude?

Wes Logan smoked a dock in a BASS tourney last year. He had a 'leash' on his motor which prevents the motor from flying in the boat if you hit something. My next boat will have one.

Lewis Smith Lake is one of the clearest and deepest (264 feet) lakes in Alabama. I grew up fishing and skiing on it. It’s an Alabama treasure for sure. Unfortunately, you hear of at least one fatal accident or drowning most years.

You should see them when they come to the St. Johns river here. You'll have them going from Palatka as far south as Lake George and as far north as the greater Jax area.

That's scary, those bass boats are crazy fast. Thankfully he was not hurt.

I grew up going to Smith Lake and my parents had a place up there until a couple of years ago. Some of those bass tournament guys will absolutely fly down the lake in the mornings. There’s no way they can ever slow down fast enough if they suddenly needed to stop. This happened near where a family friend owned a house for many years. Really sad.

Two dead. MLF bass pro hit a guided striped bass fishing charter. One of the customers on the charter was the other person who was killed.

After the incoming lawsuit, fishing tourneys are about to get speed limits.

Alabama also requires a boating certificate to drive/pilot a boat in state waters. I'm not required to have one when I fish in Alabama due to being "grandfathered" in by the DOB requirement, but I still did the online course and tested for it. There's a lot more to hopping in a boat, starting the motor, and heading down the lake when it comes to the laws and rules of boating. I'm glad I went ahead and did the course despite not being required.

That being said, it pretty much goes without saying that you don't overdrive your visibility. This sounds like it was an accident caused completely by negligence and disregard for safety and the lives of others.
