Wearing a mask for 3-4 hours? That’s miserable
Save your pity for the poor bastards flying economy on the Los Angeles-Sydney route and having to mask up for the whole ride.
It may be more comfortable to just FedEx yourself.

Masks are incredibly uncomfortable and inconvenient.

I think a lot of people will just pick a place they can drive to instead. It’ll be a trade-off for sure. But they’ll lose people no doubt.
NY’ers can pay $500 for ticket to LA and wear a mask for 6 hours...or they can drive up to cape cod for $50 in gas and not be forced to spend 12 hours in misery. Changes the calculus

You think people aren't going to take a flight from NY to California, Florida, or anywhere because they have to wear a mask? They are just going to start up their cars and drive, huh?

Wearing a mask isn't as bad as you are making it out to be.

Well sir, you’re free to drive to your destination. See the ticketing clerk for a refund. Thank you.

Maybe not to some. I’ve worn them into stores a few times and I get claustrophobic inside them within about ten minutes. It is a noticeable discomfort to me.
Will I never fly again with the mask rule? Of course not. Will it affect my decision making when I’m deciding where to go for a weekend trip or whether to drive/fly to an intermediate destination like Nashville or Atlanta? Yes.

The world has changed with this virus. You will see more and more people wearing masks going forward regardless of a pandemic or not. Should it be mandatory, I don’t have a problem with it in the short term. But we will have to see how it plays out going into next year and if continues to be mandatory or not. I suspect it will not as people get back to work and you don’t see a spike in hospitalizations.

If airlines say you have to wear a mask, people will suck it up and wear masks. There is often just not a choice but to fly.
It really isn't that bad if you get a good mask either.
Now, if they don't serve me my double scotch on the rocks and don't let me bring my own booze, we're going to have issues.
Regardless, this will all be over soon. It isn't permanent.

What POS airline are you flying if it takes 12 hrs to get from LA to NYC? Less than 6 hrs non-stop.

Get a better mask.
And most people aren't claustrophobic from wearing a fricking surgical mask

He said 6 hours and then doubled it for the return trip...

I wear masks selectively depending on where I’m going.
Doesn’t bother me. I’d wear one going from ATL to NOLA, but NYC to LA? Unless I absolutely had to make that trip, I just wouldn’t go honestly.

Airlines to require masks
Gonna check it out later this month. Going to Charleston SC. I have a wife-made custom face mask. I hope that's good enough. Fly Southwest!

Short term? It's been 2 months of this already with no end in sight. This mandate should have come out on day 1 and if it made a difference we would've noticed by know. Just keep grandma and grandpa at home instead of screwing everyone else over for flying/traveling.
I'm in the same boat that people can wear masks if they want (i've seen it all over asia in airports) but forcing them to for every aspect of their life (grocery store, pharmacy, church, traveling, beaches, etc.) is not okay. I also understand that private businesses can do as they choose and we as people can make up our own minds of where to give our business to. If I don't agree with what the airlines are doing in requiring masks, they're not getting my business. Can't blame a consumer for not buying a product they don't want.
