Airfix P61 Black Widow - Build and Review

This kit begins with crew members that are not even scale to each other. The midget pilot has to be up front to clear the canopy design. His controls are almost bigger than him. Controls for the second pilot are absurdly large as well. Pathetic design by Airfix.



The exploded assembly instructions FAIL to include that this model will need at least 25 grams of nose weight. This important detail is left out of the instructions! I had to add weight to the canopy floor. Weight could have been easily added inside the giant nose cone but I had already sealed it to the fuselage before I realized that the thing was completely tail heavy. Airfix are bastards for not including this important detail.



Ok we get going and there are glaring fit issues. The two tail parts where they meet the canopy had giant gaps that I had to fill with putty and then sand. Again, poor design but I managed to salvage the build.

In the end the build came out ok but was a complete pain in the arse. The decals were the best thing about this kit.

3/10 kit.

Terrible design, fit issues galore, clear canopy parts marked with random blemishes from the factory moulds. Crazy amounts of extraneous flashing on every single part.

I would not recommend anyone building this piece of crap kit.
