PRAIRIEVILLE, La. (WAFB) - Air Products has shelved plans for a carbon capture facility in Ascension Parish, ending months of pushback from nearby residents.

The proposed carbon capture facility would have stored carbon dioxide underground to eliminate emissions.

The company said it will work with parish staff, emergency responders and contractors as it winds down activity and closes out permits tied to the projects proposed for the Ascension Parish plant, the Lake Maurepas area and related pipeline routes.

As a responsible corporate citizen, we are committed to exiting this project properly. That includes responsibly and ethically winding down activities and fulfilling outstanding contractual obligations at the proposed plant site in Ascension Parish, at Lake Maurepas and surrounding area, and pipeline rights-of-way. We will also close out our regulatory/permitting processes and partnerships related to the project, as well as work collaboratively with Parish staff, emergency responders, contractors and other parties during this time.

If only there was some natural way to capture carbon...

Clam shells do contain a measurable amount of carbon.

Clam shells are made primarily of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). By weight, CaCO3 is about 12% carbon.

How many thousands of tons of shells have been dredged from the lakes?

(... likely in the tens of thousands of tons per year for Lake Pontchartrain, with Lake Maurepas contributing a similar or slightly smaller amount.)

I thought clam dredging was closed years ago.

“Bunch of rednecks with internet connection that thinks they’re geologists”
Statement posted on social media by COO Pineville when Beaver Lake project cancelled at old IP paper mill site on Hwy 107.
Must have a bunch of rednecks with internet in Prairieville also.

The COO took down his post but not before a screenshot was taken and reposted by a local activist.

The entity that was going to build the Beaver Lake facility explanation that demand for CO2 free ethanol was not materializing as they had hoped. Also they were having trouble getting financing for the project.
I think the opposition to the plan to capture CO2 and sequester it played a part in their decision to cancel the project.

I’m glad they cancelled it,just a huge scam and a certain amount of danger associated with it.
I’m a small tree farmer with close to 100 acres,of pine trees I can’t sell but frickit,I’d rather the trees die of old age rather than my tax dollars go to a boondoggle scam that endangers the aquifer I depend on for water.

That CO2 is destined for an area without leisure boating activities and an easy to scare population.

Duped ExxonMobil into dropping 4.9 billion on them.

Denbury’s business was always producing oil with Enhanced Oil Recovery from aging oulfields. They dressed up as a carbon capture company for a year and the execs sailed off into the sunset.

It’s ashamed all that money that was spent studying and testing the grounds under the lake. Money would have been better spent capping and sealing up all the leaking abandoned oil wells in the marshes and gulf.
