Yeah I know we have a movie board, but this is about the Rona.
AMC can borrow money from their Chinese overlords to stay afloat right now, Hollywood can just spend down their reserves... meanwhile small businesses really are taking it in the shorts.
I know the owner... this is really sad. They had rather affordable prices for movies and concessions, especially compared to the larger outfits.

Chalmette Movies announced it would close its doors permanently Friday (Feb. 19), a casualty of the coronavirus pandemic.
The small independent theater, which showed both mainstream and art films, closed in March 2020, then reopened in June at 50% capacity. However, the safety restrictions, social distancing and the lack of new movies coming out of Hollywood dampened attendance, and in July the theater shut down again, with promises to be back when it was feasible.
However, the possibility that masking and social distancing might have to continue for much of this year made it hard to pinpoint a time when Chalmette Movies could return to business, owner Ellis Fortinberry said in an email.
"We'd love to say that we will come back in the future, but in this COVID environment, it's hard to say if and even when," Fortinberry's email said.

And, it's only going to get worse.

I represented that theater about 20 years ago. Some woman fell down the stairs.
I still have the Silver Cinemas operations manual somewhere on a shelf.

Was in the same location as the movies back in the day? Spent many an evening there if so. I remember being young and it was a $1 movie theater so we got shite right before it went to video. Finally it became a more normal theater.

Had a friend who worked there. I would help change the cureent movie lineup sign near Judge Perez. We could watch movies for free.
Plus they had Pole Position game. Loved that as a kid

Sucks. I went there all the time growing up and about a year before Katrina they started doing Rocky Horror nights with the props which was awesome.
I hadn’t been to the new version of the theater since Katrina though. Had friends that worked there and it seemed like a nice locally owned business.

When I was younger, we’d go there and watch movies all day on one ticket. And we’d bring our own snacks.

My buddy looked into renting out a theatre there a few months back and he said they gave him the run around, seemed strange then and even stranger now

It was basically an under 18 music venue. Lots of local bands played there.
