This could all be eliminated if everyone would just get a biometric chip implanted in their hand or forehead.

Well ya. But I love how the media makes it sound like some rogue AI broke in to various banking systems on their own to add more fuel to the ZOMG AI GONNA KILL US ALL fire they've been pushing...
...when it was really just meemaw being stupid and giving her creds to an AI agent, just like when she was stupid and gave her banking creds to Pajeet.

Yeah that wouldn't get as many clicks

Being dumb and ignorant is such a tax on life.

And they laugh at those of us who still believe "cash is king"

They're getting way better than they used to. I got a call, checked out the caller ID and it showed it was my credit union (they hacked the trunking system). After I talked to the person on the other end I got suspicious. I hung up and called the credit union back. Found out they never called. When that same person called me back I did a Tom Cruise "Tropic Thunder" curse out them. It was actually therapeutic.

I just got an email about a new device trying to login to my Venmo account. I rarely use it, so I went in and removed all my banking info, changed the password, then deactivated the account. I will be keeping a keen eye on my checking account transactions for a while over this.
Don't like that at all.

Can they add some zeros? Asking for a friend.
Yeah, all zeros
Yeah, all zeros

Sam Bankman-Fried just pressure testing his next business idea. No biggie….

Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts
That's SOP for any IT department and required by financial regulatory agencies. No big deal.

Of course that's what it is. I'm sure the author of this article knows that too, but is intentionally fear mongering instead.
And to clarify, this is not bank account holders unwittingly or accidentally giving agents access to their bank account, this is account holders fully knowingly and willingly giving their own agents access to their bank accounts, so that their agents can do financial tasks on their behalf.

My guess is no.
Curious if these are smaller local banks or if any of the big banks have had infiltration. I would expect smaller banks to not have as tight of controls as larger banks, and if there is any slop at all in a zero trust model in any financial software, AI will absolutely find the vulnerability.
I haven't seen any correlation of AI and this PHP2Shell vulnerability that the NSA announced recently, but my opinion is this has AI written all over it.
The models that are currently being released are able to discover vulnerabilities at a much more rapid pace than software systems and operating systems can provide a patch for.

Except that's exactly what it is.

I'll let you in on how this game is played. The NSA and various other nation-state actors keep a nice little portfolio of zero days they developed, discovered, or both to use as necessary to do their thing. Every now and then a security researcher, increasingly with the help of AI, figure out these zero days then the NSA "discovers" it as well and releases the details to the public as a "zero day" when in fact it never really was.

And there agentic AI systems already in existence to counter any attempt to exploit them just as fast. Granted, you have to have the budget and expertise in your organization to do so, so there is that.
Source: I'm in an org with the budget and expertise to do so. And played with the NSA once or twice when I was in uniform doing this.
