AG Jeff Landry refers to himself as "General Landry"

From the first paragraph of his bio on the LA DOJ website
Other references to his rank scattered throughout the website. After some research, I found that it can be an archaic form of address still occasionally used in some courtroom situations. But to run with it and call yourself a general in common parlance is over the top douchebaggery.

I've met people who've gone through law school call themselves "Dr. Lawyer" because they have a juris doctorate.

Weird.
General is purely descriptive in Attorney General and bears no relation to the military title.
Hence why the plural is Attorneys General

It would be like calling an assistant professor "Assistant Smith" instead of "Professor Smith"

I've heard a lot of criticisms of Landry (dumb, crazy, unqualified, incompetent, bible-thumping, etc), but never corrupt. Where does that come from?

I don't think the over the top coonass schtick plays well with a lot of the Republican base outside of Acadiana and Houma
