If you don't understand that Mardi Gras is about indulgence (before the fasting in Lent) and has always been a great, free family spectical, you should probably not comment. Those that don't get mardi gras never will and it's your loss. Do whatever you do wherever you live and leave us alone.

A lot of people treat Mardi Gras like a chance to do whatever they want with zero consequences. I think Mardi Gras is fun, but it’s easy to do something incredibly stupid.

It took looking at bourbon street cameras to know Nola is trashy?

That is true. That was the last time I was in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. It was great.

I like the suburban parades and uptown parades ok. I caught just a few minutes of Choctaw last weekend and is all I have been to this year.

I do hear that Houma parades are very good.

Everything's trashy. That's why things are fun.

I'm sure there was a time when it wasn't trashy, if you go back far enough.

Has it always been trashy, or is this a relatively new phenomenon caused by even more jackass tourists?

You sound fun.

I haven't been to Bourbon St for Mardi Gras in many years.. I would imagine it isn't as wild as it used to be since everyone has a camera in their hand. If you were on Bourbon St at night during Mardi Gras weekend, you couldn't turn around without seeing someone flashing for beads.

Bourbon St during Mardi Gras is fun when there is a big parade going on because a lot of people go to the parades and Bourbon thins out a little bit

But that is what it has always been man. I wouldn't say trashy because you just have to take it for what it is.. But being this is the OT I am sure everyone will say its trashy.

Are you comparing a Christmas parade in Central to Mardi Gras parades in New Orleans?

Just got home from a family trip to Nola for Mardi Gras. Watched parades in downtown and uptown. Nothing trashy about it. Great weather, fun time. Don’t want trashy then dont go to Bourbon St.

Mardi Gras is a spectrum from Elegant to Charitable to Trashy.

Truest statement on this thread.

It’s a microcosm of civilization. People with means will pay good money to isolate themselves from the commoners (the Balls) while they rest of the unwashed masses use it as an excuse to be extra trashy.

Mardi Gras has always been trashy in the Quarter, and this comes from a 67 yr. old male who's seen much of the Mardi Gras madness associated with the Quarter.

In my younger days parades came through the Quarter with flambeau carriers lighting the way, and there was no telling what the average citizen would see on any given night.

On Fat Tuesday it really peaked with drag shows ushering in the "Queen" of Mardi Gras and who the hell knows how many women and men baring their bodies for the hell of it.

It is what it is, and if you don't want to see it, stay out of the Quarter.

You don’t need to view live cams to figure this out.
