After MEPS, waiver program? Update - my son became a soldier today

Okay, my son is trying to join the army. He just went through MEPS and passed everything, but the medical examiner wouldn’t give him the go ahead because of an old shoulder injury. It did not inhibit his performance and the surgeon who performed the surgery wrote a letter saying he was fit for service (the surgeon is also former army). The medical examiner said my son had to go through the waiver program. The paperwork has been started and all he has to do now is wait.
The problem is, he got a great contract that’s only good for 7 more days. He got combat medic school and airborne.
What are his chances of getting everything through in time to still get his current contract?
Update - so, my son did not get his waiver in time before his contract expired so now we’re waiting for the waiver to go through and then he’ll put together another contract. He’s not signing anything unless it has 68W in it.
Update 2 - my son got his waiver today, now it’s back to MEPS again on Monday and they’ll put together a new contract for him. He’s been told by numerous people not to sign anything unless it has 68W in it.
Update 3 - he went back to MEPS today and enlisted in the army. He will go to basic training January 7th in Oklahoma, after that is combat medic training (68W). He did not get airborne on his initial contract.
Update 4 - my son left for basic training at ft sill in Oklahoma today. He goes to MEPS in Jackson, MS one last time in the morning and then he gets flown to ft sill for a few days of intake and the basic training starts in January 7th. It takes 9 weeks then he goes to ft Sam Houston in San Antonio for combat medic training for 16 weeks, then he will be stationed somewhere.
Update 5 - my son graduated today. He is now officially a soldier in the US Army. It seems like he’s matured 10 years in the last 2 months. He acts and holds himself like a man now. I’m so fricking proud. He got a few hours with us yesterday and again today then he leaves at midnight tonight for combat medic training in San Antonio (ft Sam Houston). He’s gone from a snotty teenager to a man and now he’s gone. Kinda sad. Oh well. That’s the way life works I guess.
Thank all of y’all for your help and support.

The same offer will be available if he clears waivers. Don't sign until they are.

I went through MEPS years ago and had an issue with one of the exercises (duck walk). They sent me to a specialist who said there were no issues. Ended up not joining for other reasons.
I joined years later and haven't had any issues. I'm sure he can get a waiver or go see a specialist who says it isn't an issue.

He will get the medic slot. Airborne shouldn't be hard, damn near half the medics I went to training with did airborne after. Medics and infa try are growing right now. Last summer we were at about 92% strength. I wouldn't worry about the waiver or the contract.
ETA
Oh yeah, make sure everything is on the contract before signing. All schools, bonuses, and benefits.

Usually they send you to a hospital near MEPS to check out if you are ok, no matter how long ago the injury or what ever was. I had to get exrays of my leg i broke when i was 13 lol
don't believe that bullshite. Simple scare tactics, if you have a guaranteed contract you wait until you get a slot. They are just trying to ship him off to basic to meet their numbers.

I'm a medic in army and had a torn labrum in my shoulder in high school that was repaired. Honestly he shouldn't be worried about his 68W slot because its not hard to get with a reasonable ASVAB score, but airborne is somewhat harder to get prior to enlisting! I was waived my first trip to Meps and had to go 6 weeks later to officially enlist. Just depends on the process. Mine was 6 weeks from end of April to early June a few years back not sure if it changed! anyhow goodluck and I wouldn't worry about the 68W slot. PS: if your son is a PT stud especially running then he can earn an airborne slot at basic and or AIT.

This is along the same lines as those infomercials where they say "Hurry! You must call now to get this special offer...hurry! hurry!"
Trust me, the recruiter is more stressed about your son getting in than you are, you have the leverage in this situation.

It will come back. The only hiccup will be if the USAREC Surgeon General at Ft Knox will require an ortho consult done on the military's dike prior to resubmitting the waiver.
Med waivers come back in 2 days or so. I would say he should have no issues. I was a tanker in the Army but I did a 6 month compassionate reassignment working at a recruiting battalion operations section as an E-8 pushing waivers.

I had to sign a waiver for an old ankle injury when I joined the Navy back in 1986. I had medical corpsman school and guaranteed E-4 advancement on the completion of A-School. Yes I had this in writing prior to MEPS. In any case the waiver took very little time and I was able to enlist and go to boot camp under my initial contract. I never had an issue and once I completed boot camp the slot was there as promised for my corpsman A-school.

Refuse to sign if they take those offers away.
68W and BAC will still be on the table. Don’t let the recruiters dictate his career path. Stick to your guns and he’ll get those schools.
