What general area of practice?

i do some criminal and some very specific things in family law. when a random PI case comes along i do it

sometimes i do some civil defense work or contract work if it's worth my time or the connection is worth making

also that's another reason i play poker. i almost make more from meeting clients or potential contacts there than i do from poker itself

i just have to decide how to market certain areas and create efficiencies to keep this rolling

What I see with good young lawyers is they get trapped, wife, kids, house etc and they literally have to take what comes through the door. They know its a shitty business model but they need that $3,500 and get sucked in to endless family litigation.

But you seem to have the discipline and ability to see the long term benefits of building a base and playing the long game.

*My next lesson will be on not fricking the help or clients!

i'd say LC is cheaper, but LC is on the rise while Laffy has stagnated after its fall

i wouldn't be opposed to LC. i'd rather have more spending power in a smaller city than be broke as hell in NOLA or similar.

It seems like marketing would be difficult in these specific areas and there would be almost zero client retention (only because it is hopefully, a one time issue you are handling).

you ever met the dregs of LA society, mate?

also, if you can get those folk out of trouble they'll sing your praises to everyone they know. good crim defense lawyers don't need billboards.

yeah i'm so glad i'm at a point where i can be picky

my only contested family matter is a favor (of course)

i don't even travel outside of Calcasieu often

i did learn that from my mentor and i got to learn a bunch of vicarious lessons from other successful attorneys who take on too much

but i also was smart about facing reality when i graduated. i moved back to LC (which was seen as a major downgrade and mocked by many of my friends) b/c i had that job with the mentor. thanks to TD, i knew it was the summer of 2008 and everything was about to implode. many of my LS friends took 1-2 years to get a real job and some became landmen, etc and never even ended up practicing

if i'm stuck here then i just have to live with being the future King of LC and that's not so bad in hindsight

i have no employees

or clients!

lawyer friend of mine got in some major shite for that a couple years ago

i was just joking

living the "Nola dream" is just terrible when you start out

you can always build up some skills and a legal repertoire and then market it in larger areas

yeah 1000-1500 in rent plus loans and general high cost of living would be a huge kick in the nuts unless you're making bank coming out

not one i have in mind, but i'm not going to discuss that publicly

that issue is a 1-time issue and for many clients they never need a lawyer again

my demographics skew towards people who do need lawyers again

plus, anyone's cousin can be run over by an 18-wheeler. that's a non-demographic randomness you have to cast a wide net to fully realize

If you want to make a lot of money, do something that no one else wants to do. Plumbers make bank
