It's better than a lot of crap on tv

That's where it loses its flare on me. It is entertainment but then you have people trying to brand it as a sport. You can argue other sports have "fixing" in place, but majority of the time it's competitive and best person/team wins. I don't see how you can get so invested in something like this as an adult. South Park made fun of it for a reason.

I watched Animal of the Road Warriors bench press about 550....pretty damn strong dude.
It's on YouTube.

I can't stand watching it now but I loved it as a kid in the early '80s. I do enjoy a good podcast with the old guys I remember. I was in a bar in Tampa three years ago and Ric Flair walked in. He still has enormous star power.
The HBO doc on Andre the Giant was excellent. Modern chemistry vs. random genetics was a great storyline throughout Andre's career. Big John Stud was just as big and Andre grabbed him like he was a woman. Acromegaly>>>>>PEDs

You answered your own question. It is not a true game of sport. As far as the uncertainty part, the audience doesn’t know what will happen next hence the excitement. Wrestling is no different then watching a TV show or movie and sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to know what happens.
You say the action/acting is over the top. Well so is a Michael Bay movie or a Super Hero movie. A lot of people enjoy that.
Quit being a hater of things that are not your cup of tea. It makes you look petty and insecure.
I don’t like Howard Stern’s brand of humor but I don’t go around thumbing my nose at those who do like you are here.

It's entertainment, something we enjoy watching. A lot of us have a favorite TV show that we enjoy watching over and over again. Wrestling is very similar. The characters might have changed, but the stories are the same; good vs evil, David vs Goliath, victory of the underdog, friend turns on friend, hero turns villain, villain turns hero, ect. Mix those storylines with the athletic aspect of wrestling and you really have something special.

I’ll bite. Nostalgia, mainly. Add to the fact that my little boy (who is six) enjoys it as well. To him, the stories and fighting are more real than they are fake right now. I explain to him how it works sometimes, but he still watches it like a movie or cartoons.
I was like that when i was a kid as well. Sometimes nostalgia is hard to shake. I don’t follow it religiously. More along the lines of moderately.
As we all know it’s fake, sure, but there is an amount of physicality and athleticism that goes along with a lot of it. The bumps that some of these guys take rank up there with fighting. They’re stunt performers and it takes a good deal of training to do what they do to make it look good.

I don’t understand where the interest comes from.
It's basically soap operas for men. It's over the top, in your face bullshite. And most of it is toilet-type humor.
I am 39 and haven't watched it in ages, but I absolutely loved it as a little kid, and then got way back into it when I was in college. It was something that my friends and I just thought was funny and we enjoyed watching it. Also would go to some of the low-budget wrestling events sometimes when they came to town.
Basically, it was just fun.

I enjoy watching and respect the insane amount of talent it takes for those guys and girls to put on a match safely,
No different than any other tv show. Only difference is I can watch it live. Compared to other entertainment options wrestling is quite inexpensive. Have never went to a live show and felt disappointed.
I don’t consider it s guilty pleasure as I don’t care if anyone knows I like wrestling or not.
I’ve lost interest in WWE as of late. Really enjoy NJPW, CZW and watching Being the Elite on YouTube (Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Cody). Most pro wrestling is not like WWE.

You haven't removed the uncertainty for the fans. They still don't know who is going to win.
It's like any other tv show. There is a plot and a conclusion and many times, significant twists along the way. People might "know" Lesnar is going to win, but they don't know how it will happen.

I can tell there is a pretty big professional wrestling fan base here. I can also tell the majority of posters here are likely above the age of 18, so I’m curious as to why men follow wrestling so religiously.
I’m not even judging, just a genuine interest in why grown men are enamored with wrestling.
We all agree it’s scripted, which I understand is arguably no different from any other form of entertainment like movies, television, plays, etc.
But if the wrestling industry is fictionalizing bouts between fighters, aren’t they taking away why these types of matches have existed for thousands of years, the uncertainty?
When it comes to true games of sport like boxing and actual wrestling, it is said that two evenly-matched fighters can both win, it just depends on the day of the week.
So if you take the true uncertainty out if wrestling, I don’t understand where the interest comes from.
Plus, the acting is way over the top and just terrible, IMO. These guys’ talents lie in body building, I’ll give them that. Acting, not so much.
Thanks for shedding some light on why you follow wrestling. I will add I enjoy watching our Commander in Chief take part.
For me it's pretty simple. Wrestling (territorial) was huge in the south when I was a kid. My dad and grandfather took me to the shows back then. So it's a nostalgia/memories thing for me.

It’s story telling
I watch for nostalgia
The wrestlers are better athletes today but don’t always have the psychology to tell the story. Sometimes it’s just spot after spot.
I’m a kinesthetic person as well so I’ll watch anything that requires athletic ability

The same reason men follow football so religiously. Exactly the same reason. It's entertaining.
