I have an IRA (separate from my 401k) so that when I retire I can adopt senior dogs, plan is to start a rescue
I want to adopt ones that’s owner has went into nursing homes

ETA
We did this with an older Beagle
The kids / grandkids didn’t want her
She fit in great with our other dogs
We had her for about a year before we had to let her go, she had cancer in her mouth
She was spoiled rotten & we gave the owner an option to see her first but he wanted to remember her his way

I plan on doing that with the next animal I adopt.

Wish I had it in me. I get attached too quick and too hard.

I've fostered a lot of dogs and a lot of puppies.
Puppies are A LOT of work with the lack of being potty trained.

You sound like a fine human being.
Adopt that dog.

Adopt that dog and love him/her to the moon and back. As the owner of an adopted rescued dog, I highly recommend it.

Older dog appreciates it more.
I adopted one which had a few years left.
It took a few days to get use to me.

One he did it he had a good life and slept on the bed with my wife and I thinking he was protecting us.

It was sad when we lost him.
I am sure he enjoyed the last few years of his life with us.

I will always have a dog.

But I’d sure like to go through losing a dog as few times as possible.

So that gives me pause on adopting older or senior dogs. Selfishly I don’t want to purposely up my dog deaths/years of my life left ratio.

Adopted my 1st dog 2 years ago. Harley is a Golden Retriever approximately 8-10 years of age. Our adoption has worked out so well, we adopted our 2nd dog, a 5 year old Golden Retriever December 2019.

I 100% recommend adopting a dog that works for your household. GL

Adoption dogs are the best dogs I’ve had. Have one now. She’s a beauty. Mid sized dog. She was about 6 months when I snatched her fromPAWS at the dome during a damn home and garden show looking for outdoor kitchen ideas.

Seems like the dog would figure out pretty quickly that you're not its biological parents.

In my experience, the best dogs are several years old....I’d do it in a heartbeat.
