My son is getting his license next week and I've been looking at quotes for how much my insurance will go up.
Try almost double the amount I pay for me and my wife!!!

Anyone have any secret formula to make the premium not be so high? Brother-in-law? Anything?

Good grades. My parents made me pay the difference if I didn't qualify for the good grades discount in HS

Add him as a "secondary driver" only to car he will be using

Did this with my teenagers, you'll still have to bend over of course but this adds some lube

I've found it's best to get a good grip on your ankles, relax, and try to find your happy place.

Hahahaha. Prepare yourself.

A friend of mine used to pay her son 300.00 per month to not drive.

Know why premiums for a teen male are higher than a female?

Your daughter won't try to get a blow job while driving.

I upped my deductibles to $2,000 on every car and it helped quite a bit.

This is a great time to shop around your insurance, but, esp if you live in LA, it ain't good.

State Farm lost $7 billion in auto last year.
That's a "B".

All auto insurance rates will go up, esp SF.
And, esp in LA.

the only things I know of, at least in my state, are to take an on line driver's ed class, and if he has > than a 3.0 GPA(and what kid doesn't these days,) provide proof of both to insurance agent/company, and they'll knock it down a little, male drivers are pretty much screwed until they get into late 20s, early 30s

Geico

good grades discount
driver's ed discount

Increased $160/mo which he covers.

I also bought him an older model Civic which provides a lower cost than tOT Ballers buying their 16yo spawns new Tundras and Stangs which IMO is dumb

Just painful financially. God with high deductible and make sure he isn't driving a Jeep or Mustang or Camaro.
