Make sure he's taken drivers ed and keeps up a 3.0 GPA for good student discount.
Maybe buy him an older car you can pay for in cash and just carry liability only for. May not work though depending on your insurance company because some companies don't assign each driver to a specific vehicle.

Looks like it's time for Jr to get a part time job.

Not in that situation, but I'm sure mine was cheaper at the time due to only having liability on a 1985 Toyota Cressida lol.

I kept my kid on learners permit until his senior year. Geico was no extra charge until he got his license.

I had been with state farm 30 years and when I added a teen Geico killed them on the rate---$2000 less but still expensive.

Without KY, of course. Next thing to prep the anus for is college tuition. Hopefully, you saved for that.

My 17 year old was only 100 a month for his car or 0 if he drove my second car.

USAA if you can. Best rates I have seen, but still high for a teen driver.

I'm 29 and my rates are still high.
Totaled a car when I was 18 and had a few speeding tickets. My wife's rate is less than half of mine

Just do like half the BR population and just not have him insured.
But of course then you'd be part of the reason that rates are so damn expensive here.
