See my fancy Microsoft Paint drawing a few posts up. This is where I'm leaning. Because I agree with you on this:

The length of the "2x4 bracing" sections in the photo below will be around 24 inches, I'm guessing right now, I haven't measured, but that's probably a pretty good guess.

Instead of doing what you have, why not create a standalone frame from whatever brick wall goes up to to as far down as you can go, then put in 2 cross braces. Total of 3 2x4's and 5 minutes of labor

My concern is that the anchors would be in the mortar. Hammer drilling the mortar to insert the anchors could weaken the mortar joints unknowingly. If the anchor pulls out of the mortar joint, then what?

I'd just rather be safe on this since I have the option to get back there and build a support structure. It won't be difficult to do, I'm just making sure I account for the job properly and don't miss an easier way of doing it safely.

ETA:

Even the manufacturer, in their instructions for hanging the mount on a cement block wall, warns against using the mortar joints for the anchors:

ok ill reason with you, if this is your concern, Why build a support structure? you are worried about the mortar. Just drill holes for some lag bolts to go completely through the wall and have washers on the other side.

Ramrod is a mall cop and poor one at that. He wanted to work for the Feds, but misspelled both CIA and FBI.

Can't wait to come down there and visit.

It's obvious he can't spell three letter words (or acronyms).

You Barney Fife d-bag. Tell me where the washers go when using lag bolts.

You are trying to suggest what I did pages ago but I, of course, said carriage bolts. The CORRECT CHOICE.

You are so dense.

I still think you would be fine drilling all the way through the wall and using hex bolts with the largest fender washer you can find and a nylock nut on the back side. That will spread out the "stress", if there really is any, on a larger area. Drill through the mortar and not the brick if possible. Drilling will be easier and you do not run the risk of shattering or cracking the brick.

I did just have another thought. Buy another of the same mount. Drill all the way thru, and you can bolt them back to back with the brick in between. That would spread out more weight too. that is unless you bought one of those super expensive mounts.
