I'm adding a full motion TV mount to a brick wall in my living room. The area is above a wood-storage 'hole' in the wall next to my fireplace.

The problem is, there are no studs behind this section of the brick wall. I know this because we recently renovated the master bathroom which is on the other side of the fireplace/brick wall.

I can access this area pretty readily and build something to give it some support behind the brick, but I am struggling with ideas on what type of support I should make. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Put a plate on the backside of the wall and secure all bolts through it.

Drill through the rock and secure the mount with long bolts with nuts on the backside (in your closet). That will be sturdier than anything else you can easily do.

There's plenty of room to cut some 2"x4"s and brace between the studs.

Drill holes in masonry, use masonry sleeves and Lag screws to attach mount

I really might be, I tend to over analyze everything. But Sanus does not recommend mounting to brick.

This was one of my thoughts. Distribute the load.

It's hard to tell in the photo, but the studs you see are not actually up against the brick wall that I'll be mounting to.

Smart move not putting it above the fireplace and voiding your warranty.

Ive done it. Use the hammer in wall anchors, they look like big nails but expand behind the bricks. Very solid.

Figure out what size you need for your item's weight....

How are you delivering power to the TV?

Yea, I am not a fan of putting it above the fireplace. And I'd prefer not to put it where I am forced to here. But as you can see, this wall is all brick. Another wall is all sliding doors to the backyard. I don't want to put my couch facing away from the sliding doors looking out over the lake. So this is the only real option.

I have power already there. Not a problem on that front.

yup. if you're worried, just add a couple more to the mount instead of the normal 4 and you're good to go. i've mounted 2 to brick.

everyone loves blue tapcons!

eta make sure you have a hammer-drill or you will be in hell drilling holes.

You're talking about the outlet by the door? Oh, I was thinking you'd want a cord free view

simply so they are not liable for improper hanging...tapcons (masonry screws) should be plenty, drill the proper size hole and do not overtighten.

No. If you look closely you can see romex poking through the brick near the center of taped rectangle of where the TV will go. We used to have a mantel that went all the way across and it had a strip of outlets along the top. I unwired that when I removed the mantel. I need to cut the bricks to add a receptacle box with that existing wiring.

Cut some 12" square pieces of 1/2" plywood. Drill your holes through the mortar and use bolts, washers and nuts. Put the bolts through the plywood to distribute the weight.
