Acura is the luxury model of Honda. Genesis is the luxury model of Hyundai. Keep that in mind.

Keep in mind that neither Honda nor Hyundai are what they used to be.

So what would you suggest? Kia and Hyundai are definitely a no for me. Just curious, but agree Toyota isn’t what it used to be and lag in updating.

Why, exactly?

Lexus is almost always the choice. I would've gone that route but have hated their exterior styling for years now. Another thing to keep in mind now due to the stupid efficiency standards, is that many midsize to full size SUVs the past few model years have gone away from V6s to turbo 4s.

Acura brand sales figure has been very weak.

Thanks. And, yes, I see that re the turbo. I’ll be looking for one that isn’t. And no problem with a good used. 4Runner was at top of list but is losing ground. Passport is looking interesting, but I’ve always had Toyotas and not fond of Hondas.

My wife did as well. Once my son started driving I let him have it. It's a 2014 that she put about 100k on it. We did spend around 5K on maintenance (timing belt, struts, brakes etc) and it has been reliable so far although gas mileage is crap.

If you hate resale value get the Genesis. By hate I mean you’ll lose 60% within 5 years.

Acura is in a weird spot currently and has been for a while. I’ve driven many, and their vehicles are great, but corporate missteps are the brand’s real problem.
Acura cannot decide where it wants to operate. Does it want to go the Infiniti route and just blatantly re-skin and re-badge Honda vehicles? Does it want to move upmarket and clearly differentiate itself from Honda and the mainstream market? Does it want to over sedan or EV products, or go all in on SUVs?
They killed off the TLX too fast, rather than making common sense updates owners were very vocal about. But this vehicle was a great step in the direction of differentiating from Honda. Most of the TLX parts were unique to it. It was not simply a dressed up Accord. It was a betweener, meaning between the compact and mid size sedan classes.
They have the Integra, which is basically a re-skinned Civic, and I don’t think anyone would seriously cross-shop a 3 series and an Integra - it’s a different consumer. Also, a CVT and 190hp? C’mon Acura.
Same gripes with the ADX, it’s a Honda with a CVT and way underpowered to be a “luxury” or premium offering. Like the Integra, it’s selling, but still won’t capture shoppers who want luxury or performance. It’s a nice dressed up Honda for a premium price.
The MDX and RDX are Acura’s cash cows and they sell really well, but again, there’s a bit of an identity crisis with these, the technology is lagging, and Acura has waited too long to re-do them, the current RDX came out in 2018 as a 2019 model I believe. Acura just announced a new model is coming…in late 2027 as a 2028. They are discontinuing production this spring. Seriously? How can a company forego a year of production and sales on its most popular model?
Don’t even look at Honda/Acura and their EV madness.
Long winded way of saying Acura has a serious identity issue and at the corporate level they’ve made some real WTF decisions, BUT, they still make fantastic cars even if some of them aren’t truly luxury or performance options, and the technology seems a bit dated. Reliability is excellent.

I have a genesis gv70 25 model. Genesis gets a lot of hate in this arena, but like most things on TD. people talk out of their arse and parrot what they see elsewhere.
I love it. The interior feels like a luxury car. It drives smooth, has more than enough power, quite a number of excellent features. I have found it much more appealing and rode better than all of the Lexus i test drove when shopping. The Lexus just felt very boring and basic for what you were paying for. I know they are incredibly reliable, but man are they boring.
I had 0 issues with the GV70. I say had because unfortunately it got totaled. I was rear ended by a Jeep wrangler going 40 while I was stopped. However the genesis is built for safety. i barely felt the impact. The car absorbed all of it. People kept asking me after they saw my car if i was sure i was ok.
I cannot compare it to the Acura personally. I have no experience with them. But i can say i have no regrets with my Genesis. Am now driving my replacement GV70 and have had no problems with this one either. I haven't met anyone who dislikes their GV70 or 80. Other models i don't really know much about though.

Do you people really worry about resale that much?

2.5T or 3.5T? The 3.5 is like a sports car. one of the big reasons I went infiniti is that when something goes wrong on the Genesis it's likely going to be a bigger repair bill, and turbos are just more expensive to fix in general.
