Who's going to call in said air support? On a recreational mountain in America?
The only "clean" way to do this is small teams in the dark. You have to assume the bad guy(s) have drones, thermals, NODs, etc.
You cant just blast any moving human who looks like they may be armed.

I’m guessing one of the state national guards up there have something for this type of thing. I’d assume that’s who is being inserted. Be it IDNG or someone else’s. Or it’s the FBI.
Also—I get that there is plenty of justified criticism whenever law enforcement has military grade hardware for their SWAT and special mission teams, but this situation is why.

I imagine SWAT would be involved almost immediately and likely handling the whole thing. NG would probably lend air assets maybe?
Far as we know its still single or small group of shooters in remote wilderness. Yea, its awful, but I dont think the national guard is dropping out of the sky for the hunting party.
