So what they did is take the number of white male head of households who owned slaves and then divided that number by the TOTAL white population to get 4%. That's really shoddy statistics and it's clear it's a trick done on purpose.

Back in those days a white male head of household might have 10 white kids. Certainly 5 or 6 children were common. While the kids might not have "owned" the slaves, they certainly lived in a household with slaves in it.

A better statistic would be to look at all white male head of households and count how many of them had slaves (ignoring minor children, etc.) That is to say, only count white male adults living on their own and then count how many of them had slaves. When you do that, you get closer to 30% in total and 50% in some states like MS and SC.

I never said it was.

I would say the majority of slaves had equal to or better lives than the Irish, Italians, and eastern europeans who came over in the 1800s to work in factories in the north. Long hours in dangerous conditions where you got paid a pittance. Slaves probably cost their owners more money than the small wage northern business men paid their workers.
