Did you happen to just fire one of your employees for tackling a guy trying to steal a gun?

Fired a hero. Stupid Academy Sports. That's why prices are high, people know they can walk in and steal. I hate stupidity........ and political correctness. They claim it's because of liability or someone getting hurt.

Don’t the guns have trigger locks on them though?

Is this serious?

Looks like you've never bought a new gun or looked at a new gun. Yes, once purchased, new guns are required to have a "trigger lock" put in place before the gun leaves the store. The "trigger locks" are 1/2 step above what you'd find in a box of "Cracker Jacks." They are very flimsy and would be easy to defeat. OTOH, display guns don't have "trigger locks" on them, thereby allowing the customer to handle the gun and (if allowed by the store), test the trigger pull. Academy should retrofit their stores w/ cables tethering the gun(s) to the display case or gun desk. This would avoid the policy/personnel/PR disaster their going to suffer and would decrease the risk of theft of guns.

They followed policy. Does policy also prevent him from being immediately rehired, given a bonus for putting someone else's safety above his own, and give him a week paid vacation to let things die down?

Looks like Academy has hired the Manager back after discussions with his lawyer.

So on one hand Academy stops selling all AR and AR parts because they are killing children and then on the other hand they fire a guy who tries to prevent someone from stealing a gun to probably go and shoot someone.

Suspect had this to say in jail while awaiting his bond

quote:

He repeatedly said ‘I stole and I admit to it’ and ‘I will steal again when I get out of jail,’” officers wrote in their report.

He's now out after posting $5,000 bail

I was in the Academy at Bossier city. Why was there a lady at shoplifted some clothes and headed out the door. She jumped on the bus and left. I have a lady who was pseudo-following her why she didn’t go out to the parking lot. She said store protocol says that once they are out the sliding doors like a no longer pursue her.

NICK JONES

A manager at a Florida sporting goods store says he's been rehired after being fired for tackling a man who was stealing a handgun.

An attorney for 32-year-old Dean Crouch said Friday that Texas-based Academy Sports and Outdoors unconditionally reinstated his client. Crouch previously said he was fired Tuesday for violating a company policy against touching customers. ...
