Are you replacing the refrigerant or the system? If it's the system, you can multiply that amount by 6

Yeah, I misspoke there, it cost me 7,000 bucks to replace one unit a few years ago, my mistake on the quote. I had to replace both upstairs and downstairs at the same time and wound up paying $15,000. That equipment is cheap.

Does the new refrigerant improve efficiency?

Last year I replaced my 32 year old Carrier due to needing R-22 or whatever Freon it uses.

My preference would have been to add the Freon and keep the unit.

Those of us old enough to remember, those old air conditioning systems in the 1960’s - 70’s worked way better than what we have now.

Or not.

That article states: Residential and light commercial air conditioners and heat pumps manufactured after Jan. 1, 2025, must use the new refrigerant.

That's not true. Manufacturers can produce R410a equipment until the end of time.

I’m just the messanger? What I’ve been told is no. I’d imagine it’s the same as compared to r-22? Can they continue to manufacture it?
The issue is that 410A or puron isn’t compatible with the new refrigerant.

Because the new refrigerant has a 2L flammability rating, Al existing equipment was not tested with a 2L listed refrigerant. Therefore no existing equipment has a UL tested rating so you cannot use the new refrigerants on old equipment. You must use a refrigerant that is being phased out which would increase in cost over time.

Ever hear of DuPont Circle in D.C.?

There's a reason it is right in the heart of the capital.

The reason it is in the heart of DC has absolutely nothing to do with why you are implying it does.

My evaporator core had the major leak, getting it changed out soon, fingers crossed. My trashy hurricane window units put in and doing the work.

After 15 years, my a/c guy told me that's what you usually get out of them. Now it's an all-aluminum core, hopefully get mor than 15 years out of it.

I added some window units to keep the occupied rooms cool and set the main thermostat to 75 that way I have dual cooling options. Main will kick on if the central temperature gets above 75. Rooms can be set cooler since they have their own trashy window unit.

My trashy window unit is keeping my main unit from running non-stop.

Thinking about adding another one.

So are the NEW toilets. They are usually so efficient that they require two flushes.

My buddy since 4th grade. He said he’d charge somebody else $800. Just blind trust for my bro who has helped me here for 20 years. All I know is it’s cold again .
