There is a float switch in the pan that cuts off the unit to keep water from overflowing out of the pan and damaging the home.

You can take a water hose, fill it with water and crimp both ends. Use two people put one in the attic at the pan location, put one outside or in at bathroom at a tub. Let the person in the attic uncrimp their end with the hose in the pan and yell down to the person on the other end and they release their end. The hose will suck the water from the pan and you can run your AC tonight

There are many reasons why a coil will freeze. Low refrigerant, dirty coil or filter, dead or malfunctioning evaporator motor, bad airflow reasons unrelated to motor, etc.

Yes. Mine has a sensor which the a/c will not turn on no matter how low you set your thermostat. Bleach or Drain-O should do it, and a vacuum cleaner.

OP, your primary drain line from your evaporator is probably clogged. The drain pan primary can't drain so it's flowing through the secondary or emergency drain into your overflow pan. Water in the overflow pan is always a sign of a problem. Not always a BIG problem though. However, if you have a cracked drain pan then the price will increase significantly. It's not always a clog though it is the number one reason.

Shop vac or us cup to dip out will then make it through nigh with ac working. Will fill back up but gives you time to get drain unclogged.

Shop vac on the drain hose outside. It will suck all of the water and goo out. Then pour a jar of pickle juice through the system, or in the pan. The salt and vinegar kill the stuff that is growing inside the pipe. I have to do this 2 times per year.

I had this happen and it was insulation particles that got in the pan and clogged the drain pipe. Used a shop vac reversed and blew it out in 2 seconds, of course after an hour in the hot arse attic trying to figure out what was wrong!

Find a buddy that has a rig to blow highly compressed air down the pan’s drain pipe to blow it out.
Going forward, poor some bleach down the same pipe whenever you change the unit filter.

You can also switch your Shop Vac over to a vacuum mode. The end of the Shop Vac hose (at least mine does) fits neatly over the drain pipe where it leaves the house.
Over the summer, insects can nest there, particles from the attic collect and clog it up. The vinegar/bleach treatment above, plus the Shop Vac vacuum will likely take care of a clogged drain pan and save some $$$.
