Yup

Fan comes on but compressor does not kick in, first thing I would check, but happens more frequently at the end of the season vs the beginning, regardless easy to check and fix

Yes it shuts down the compressor so the evaporator no longer gets cold and generates condensate.

This should prevent your pan from overflowing and flooding your ceiling.

There is a float in the pan. If the water in the pan gets above a Certain level the float engages and will not allow the a/c to run

The pvc pipe coming out of the inside unit is what is clogged. The drain pan catches the water before it leaks all over your house, then uses a float switch to turn off the outside unit. Try to get the pvc unclogged with a shop vac or something that compresses air. I wouldn't use draino

It probably has a float with auto shutoff to keep your house from flooding. Go take some water out of your pan and see if it cuts back on.

If so, that's likely your problem and you just need to blow the line out.

A cap full of bleach down the pipe will usually do it.

Absolutely. Learned that the hard way in college.

Also learned (While in my fraternity house) the mind boggling fact that your air conditioner Pipes can FREEZE and stop working due to overworking during the summer while in your 110’ attic.

This is before i learned how cool science is.

Funny that's literally the one thing I would be willing to use Drano on.

If it's a Lennox unit, you probably need to have the POS coils replaced.

No sir...a unit will only freeze up when it is low on refrigerant,,,,,

I thought a clogged coil would do it.

You are right, I’ve never seen a clogged coil freeze up a unit, but I’ve heard it can happen...

Or a start capacitor malfunction, and probably several others

Situations like this are why I'm happy to have a crawlspace.
