It’s a polite way of saying to STFU and move on. The corporate expression of this meme:

Unscientifically I would venture about 1% of senior managers or directors have that ownership stake

you sound like a pretty entry level employee who reports up to a manager and is bitter about decisions people far senior to you are making. Welcome to the rest off you lower level employee life.

I don’t say ‘above my pay grade’ because I’m in the top salary bracket at my company outside of the CEO.

However, I do precursor every answer or response with…”Don’t quote me on this, but…”

More often than not I'm using the phrase "that's above YOUR pay grade".

In other words, STFU and go do what I pay you to do.

So GTFO with your little cliche.

I've had career setbacks, too, my guy. Focus on your work and things will probably work themselves out.

Some things are "above" your pay grade. If you meddle in that stuff, you might be afforded the avenue to pursue other opportunities.

It's way less than that in large corporations.

Job titles are meaningless today.

I have a job title of Vice President, but I have no secretary and I answer the phone when a customer calls.

you use this phrase in a professional setting, you are a loser. It makes you sound like a lamb being led willingly to the slaughter.

Not saying that's "above my pay grade" and moving forward without counsel in a contractual setting is a bold strategy, Cotton.

I’m a CPA. If your name doesn’t show up on the equity report as a owner of preferred stock or disclosed in the notes as a significant owner of common stock, you aren’t as important as you think you are within that company.

That's kind of the misconception I am talking about. This shite that I got told was already "decided by people above all of our pay grades" is actually something I could nip in the bud with a phone call. Will I use that power? Probably not. I use it maybe once every year or two, when some bad idea is really going to impact me or my team negatively. However, the premise that some unyielding decision has been made by someone with dictatorial control over me is 100% false.

You keep being super vague and no one has any idea what you are talking about. Either tell us the situation or let the thread die.
