I laughed. But honestly, my wife who is a newborn nurse said 100% Phelps has marfan syndrome. Which is actually something that would show up on an early genetic blood test.
well your wife might wanna tone it down with the "100%," because he gets tested yearly and he doesnt have it

ive read this like 10x in this thread. I think everyone has been around someone with DS. They don't have any hate in their body. It doesn't mean you want to take them home and raise them.
Seriously, next time dont interact with the kids, interact with the parents. I don't wish that on anyone. They all do the "blessing speech". What else are they supposed to say? If you can read body language at all, you know most of them are talking out of their arse.

Would you walk up to a man with Down syndrome and shoot him in the head?

What more could a parent want than a happy child, I have never seen a down's child that was not happy, maybe it is not the child some parents want which leads to their decision ?

For that happy child to eventually grow into a happy successful adult?

I haven't gotten that vibe at all.
Seems like the parents of DS kids are even more committed/loving than usual.

I know this, not everyone (very very small number) saying no are capable of actually dealing with this. Money where your mouth is scenario. A step up, prove your stance scenario.

What do you view as being successful?
A full time job? Because there are plenty of people with DS that work, and plenty of "normal" people who don't.
Living alone? I know a 30+ year old that lives with her parents because she can't afford rent because she spends her money stupidly. Plenty of people with DS live in group homes and can manage money.
I think every parent wants their child to be successful. But let's be honest, not everyone is going to be a CEO.

I volunteer with Miracle League. The kids there all have disabilities. Some mental. Some physical.
Their parents go through a lot for them, but not one would give their child up for anything in the world.
They are a joy and inspiration.
It isn't our right to decide who lives and dies.

He didn't have to. It was mentioned in my CEO welcome package.

I would pay it forward since my parents still kept me

I'm thankful my parents aren't like the majority of those in this thread supporting the abortion of Down Syndrome.
That is just the perfect set up, but I won't follow through under the name of common decency.
