Take a look at the hot springs, geysers, etc. in New Zealand. They had an event in the last century (IIRC) that altered that landscape. Some got more active, other less, and some new ones showed up. But no massive explosion. Massives just don't happen that often, and it usually takes subduction zones with large water content.
Geologic time is a lot longer than we comprehend. You have heard of Katmai blowing in Alaska? It's the one that should have terrorized the northern Hemisphere, only it blew and very few people noticed.
