My high school also did this all three years I went back from 07-09

What's wrong with kids today? Who gets drunk before or during the prom? Back in my day we got drunk at the after party like the good lord intended.
Yep. You arrived, stood in line to get your picture taken, get back to the limo, and straight to the hotel room/house party.

Kids will just get high instead

They threatened this at our senior prom. We threw a house party in our tuxes and didn't go and told all our parents we did.
I don't think they even breathalyzed. The threat just made 30 or so of us not go.

Our Catholic high school where our kids attend does this but it's only on the way into the building.

For a few years at my school they had issues with kids showing up drunk and being destructive to the venue and the cops had to be called once. I don't have an issue with having a "breath test" because you have trashy little assholes that will ruin it for everyone by showing up hammered.

On the way in I understand. But on the way out???? What does that mean???? That someone spiked the punch???? And what are they gonna do about it????

I always found it ironic that the ones who too often tell high schoolers they can't drink, were in fact drinking legally when they were younger at 18.
It's not my fault they changed the law. And I don't agree that it should be 21. But it is what it is.

That kids hiding alcohol is always a possibility. And I assume if on the way out someone is positive that parents or some responsible party would be called to drive them home. Surely the school is worried about legalities.

I mean, kids shouldn't really be drinking at a public school event. It'd be smart to breathalyze on the way out to ensure no drunk driving, but breathalyzing prior to is a bit much.

Ok. I can understand that. No sense risking a tragedy on prom night. But to me it make no sense. I wasn't worried about a buzz prom night. I wanted to get laid....

Teenagers be sneaky. My buddy brought big bottle of Scope mouthwash that he had replaced with vodka and green food coloring to the state Beta club convention.

They did it at an SSA dance when I was younger and gave everyone mono because the women didn't change the tube.
Thankfully, we were all drunk that dance, so we didn't show up

I knew a guy that would hide his Captain Morgan's in a washed out Aunt Jemima Syrup bottle.
No one ever batted an eye.

Yea that works well at home, but who the hell travels with their own Aunt Jemima syrup ?
Splain that one to cruise ship inspector or Beta club advisor.

I wouldn't have made in in the door.
Instead, they threw me out half way through and I got suspended for 5 days for slamming goldschlager on the dancefloor.

We were picked up from prom by a boogie bus and brought to New Orleans.
I was homeless honky wasted by the time we were over water, somehow found pancakes on bourbon street, caught my second wind, and ended up having to pay the bus driver an additional 300 bucks because I demanded to see dawn on bourbon.
By the time we made it back only three people were standing.
Having said all of that, I may have had a few bourbons while getting ready for prom. Like a god damned gentleman.

Our football coach administered these tests for our prom back in the day. He made my idiot teammates who failed run on the football field after school the following Monday. "Had to sweat out the toxins" according to him
