My private HS had them on site and if you appeared to be intoxicated, they'd ask you to take one.

Good.

Too many of our nation's beloved youth die drinking and driving before and after prom.

I don't see the point of this.

It's not going to stop the kids from drinking, and it's only going to reduce attendance.

Maybe this is a way for the school to stop having prom?

I can see doing it for liability reasons. If a kid has alcohol in their system and they drive after and die, they would somehow be sued if it was found out they drank while at the prom.

Two years ago I taught at a private catholic high school and we gave breathalyzers before and after homecoming and prom. I asked why after and they said in previous years some students hid alcohol in the ceiling tiles in the bathroom during the week leading up to the dance.

I've been to a few that tested while entering the building. They were all private schools and I think that's it's a great thing. We did drink after the event but there's no sense in a bunch of kids being wasted at a school event.

Can't get drunk? That's ok. They'll just get high.

On the way out makes sense in order to keep kids from driving drunk. What does testing them on the way in prevent? Drunk dancing?

Shouldn't drink until you are 21.

You do realize that not a single student at the prom will be of age? That means that it would be against the law for them to be drunk.

Is it crazy for the school to enforce the law?

Actually, that is not quite true. Last I checked minors in Louisiana can drink with a guardian present on their own property.

Aside from that, it's absolutely retarded that voting 18 year olds can't legally drink outside the home. I have a feeling you'll disagree with me here.

I always found it ironic that the ones who too often tell high schoolers they can't drink, were in fact drinking legally when they were younger at 18. I hold MADD responsible for the current pro-prohibition climate.
