A few times a month I like to get the McDonald's double cheeseburger, small fries special. It's $4.03,including tax.
So went through the drive thru, got to pay window and gave the scholar working the window a twenty dollar bill and three pennies. When I handed it her, she seemed to have a confused look on her face.
She did her thing at the cash register and handed me back $15 in bills and tried to hand me a bunch of coins. I asked her why she was giving me a dollar in coins. She said it's not a dollar, it's 97 cents. I asked her about the three pennies i gave her and she said she forgot those and reached back to the counter by the cash register and picked up the three pennies and handed them to me.
I told her I gave her 20.03 to pay for a 4.03 order because I wanted $16 in bills back, no coins. Ans she said, yeah, I guess that's another way you could do it

This type of employee is why they went to registers with just pictures of items on them instead of keying in prices, and it's still not enough.

You can't build something that's completely fool-proof because the world will always build a better fool.

you must think you are better than someone that works at McDonalds. that is not the right approach to take in life.

I’ve never been to a McDonald’s that was not staffed by bored, miserable looking teenagers that are probably equally bored and miserable at school, so this shouldn’t surprise you.

The girl was thinking about some nonsense she saw on TickTock and couldn’t give zero sharts about what you were hoping she would do. Just go inside next time you need to do something that requires mental engagement

Anybody tries to hand me 3 pennies in 2024

I immediately perceive that as disrespect and go for their jugular.

I once convinced a cashier in Los Angeles to give me $8 in change after I paid $10 for a $5 order.

Not my most ethical moment but funny nonetheless

I’ll also add, maybe you could have mentioned this when you handed it to her? Maybe something like, “can I have a 10 and 6 ones back please” to point her in the right direction since she almost never does this?

But it should be obvious what I’m trying to do

Fine. Keeping putting expectations on unengaged teens and enjoy your $1 in pocket change then.

Yep. It's not only McD's. I've done the same at places in BR and the cashiers have a pained look on their faces. Basic arithmetic is not their forte.

You're asking why someone would prefer not handing their credit card to a stranger who works at mcdonalds?

I have a buddy who was visiting family on the Northshore with his wife several years ago. They stopped at a Hardee’s for breakfast and ordered a couple of biscuit meals…total should’ve come to about 8 bucks. Imagine his surprise when the hog behind the register rang it up and the total was 18 bucks and change.

When my friend protested, her response was: “WELL DATS WHAT DA COMPUTAH SAY!!!”

I can't remember the last time I made any purchases at USPS.
For Amazon I have a Amazon credit card that I use for all purchases, can only be used at Amazon. So if anything fricky happens, I know Iwhere to lay blame.

Everyone trashing me about not using credit, when you have thousands charged to your credit cards and become a victim of identity theft, come back and tell me your story.

I'm talking about all the strangers that touch your packages, handle your credit and debit cards being mailed to you, your bank statements, etc.

Not that I made that point, but everyone else is always winging that they protect themselves from identity theft by using credit cards, cause they're so superior to debit cards. Feel free to disabuse them the next time one of those threads come up.

This has got to be the old man version of "everyone clapped."

I try to get rid of change whenever possible when paying cash - I never run into this.

What kind of sadsack loser has to post an essay about a McDonalds drive thru experience in order to feel better about himself?

Enjoy your trashy fat food burger, buddy.
