I don't think I've ever had the following conversation.

quote:

John Smoltz, was Rembrandt. Heck, When you think about it, Glavin, Maddoux, and Avery were Rembrandts too. Atlanta had a whole pitching staff of Rembrandts in the late 90's.

I see the connection, but, is it a stretch to say, "A pitcher who can paint the corners is known as a "Rembrandt""?

It sounds like something your crazy uncle would say, but not a known/often used saying.

Fwiw, this didn't bother me until I saw the commercial for the 6000th time.

I played baseball for my entire youth (through HS) and never once heard a pitcher described as that.

Just a poor attempt to be original and clever.

Yeah, that commercial annoys me all the time. Especially since it's a truck commercial.

Someone who is good at painting corners would be a Pedro or a Miguel

Same exact thought here. It's such a harmless commercial but is somehow very annoying.

I thought I was going crazy because the other commercial makes sense.

A well dressed man is said the be "sharp". Okay, I've heard that before...

I had heard that expression before the commercial. Now of course it's completely ruined and if someone used it in real life I would make fun of them.

But we also value that kind of precision at GMC.

I'm thankful for this thread because I'm not a huge baseball guy, but my wife wife actually asked me about this when she saw the commercial, and if they were REALLY called that, and I told her 'nah, I've never heard of such a thing." Glad to know I wasn't COMPLETELY ignorant because I thought maybe I was just out of the loop.

I think it goes "A power forward who goes hard in the paint is known as a Ron Jeremy..........we also appreciate that level of tumescence at GM......"
