re: A main reason for unemployment is that people's bad choices have caught up with them

And the worker injures them self, or someone else, while they have the reefer in their system. Doesn't matter if they were high or not, the test will show it.
Then the test is obviously stupid and needs to be more accurate.
Let’s change it up a bit.
You live in a dry county, but go to New Orleans and have a grand old time drinking on bourbon. 3 weeks later, you get popped for a test after a minor injury, but the test is so inaccurate it shows trace amounts of alcohol in your system, obviously meaning you were drunk at work when it happened, right?
Common sense

Don't knock it. I know a guy who consistently makes $1,500 a week driving for Lyft. He drives 45-60 hours per week.

Change it all you want pothead. Won't change the fact your example makes no sense as the human body processes alcohol rapidly.

There are places that can help people with online applications. Why don’t you send them there? One of my best employees struggles on the computer but I wouldn’t trade him for anything. Great work ethic and unbelievably creative.

The body also processes cocaine and heroine very quickly. Drug tests just weed out (pun intended) people who smoke pot. Most smokers I know are smart as hell and have a creative ability that most non smokers don't. Idk if it's the personality type who smoke, or them occasionally smoking, but it's a legit observation.

The point is the test is shite and if it showed alcohol a month after (I know it’s not the case) would you think it was a dumb test?

They ain't worth a crap once hired anyway, lazy as frick

Think it's bad now? Going to be a lot worse in the future where you have these kids making money as 'social media influencers' or 'youtube personalities' with no marketable skills or experience. Only a small percentage of them make enough money to be set up for life.

Appeal it immediately based on inaccuracy and use a hair test. If employer refuses to retest, you could have a case for discrimination and/or privacy.
OSHA changed the criteria for random screening a few years ago.

She doesn't have a problem with failed drug tests. Her biggest problem is most of her candidates are young, single mothers that have a hard time balancing job and parenting responsibilities.
I don't do the actual hiring because our recruiting dept does that, but in Northeast LA, our pool is limited. We get A LOT of single mothers and this is a huge problem. Kid #1 gets sick, then gets kid #2 sick, then mom is sick, so that means mom is out for 2 weeks. Or, just constantly having one sick and can't go to daycare, etc.
Single mothers struggle big time with this. I don't want to get into to much, but there is a racial component that has a much bigger problem in this area.
I feel bad for them, but it's not a big secret how kids are made.

Lol are you really trying to say weed somehow makes people more creative thinkers and that most pot heads are smarter than non smokers? I know plenty of successful people who smoke but the percent of absolute losers is much higher in smokers competed to non smokers. And I want weed legalization passed nationally but some of the crap that comes out of y'all's mouths is ridiculous and just reinforces people’s preconceived notions about smokers.

I dont doubt this at all, but i’m curious- do you know in advance of hiring that they are single mothers? If they were smart, they wouldn’t mention a gahdam thing about kids, relationship status, etc in a job interview... Maybe theyre not smart.. or do yall usually find out about their kids and personal situations after hiring them?

Maybe they should get on birth control or stop opening their legs for every swinging dick that passes by then

I feel you there. I worked in a call center and a lot of the employees we had were single black and Hispanic mothers. Kids get sick all the time and they're just like... yeah, we can't come to work sorry.
When you're operating a 15 person crew and you hitting numbers is reliant on 15 people being there a certain percentage of the time, single mothers cause a huge problem with that because their absentee rate is comically high.
So naturally people become disinclined to hire single mothers, and the cycle continues.

This is an odd thread considering that unemployment is now at a 50-year low.
Yet wages remain flat decade after decade.
9 million jobs disappeared in the late 00’s, they’ve been replaced but not at the same pay rate. While cost of living and education has skyrocketed.
Boomers still think trickle down is a thing when there no evidence to support it anymore and Amazon out here with a $0 tax bill.
Welcome to the Corporatocracy

While you’re teaching the mom a lesson the kids are growing up in disadvantaged situations on all sides and the cycle continues. Cutting off your nose to spite your face.
