Is there a long cord running off the side of the ship that plugs into another long cord like people do with Christmas lights?

It’s 3 phase AC. There are 3 power cords each with a diameter of approximately 4-6”

It ties into a distribution panel at the dock

The cables are heavy as shite

One sub can supply 65MW of power

So you're saying the Russians have made some advances in their technology?

Like their rockets we use to get to the ISS, and since the early 60s we probably should not be comparing the safety record of our space program to theirs.

Um. Are you suggesting that the Soviet space program was more successful and safer than NASA?

How is it even debatable, the Russians have launched 140 Soyuz spacecraft, they have had 4 or 5 mission failures due to technical issues, but have not lost a crew in 47 years. In 37 years and 135 launches NASA lost 2 of 5 space shuttles which killed 14 astronauts. More than one U.S. astronaut has said privately they volunteered to train with the Russians and go to their Mir space station to be able to finish out their career without flying the shuttle again.

Floating Nuclear Power Plant

So what would an operator position at something like this pay?

What’s especially sad is that neither was a product of misfortune.

In both losses the root cause was identified, escalated, investigated, and ultimately dismissed prior to loss.

Assuming it was an American plant a reactor operator makes around 130K to 150K a year. Senior Reactor operators make >150K a year. Shift Managers ~200K.

Have we already forgotten about Chernobyl? Silly Russians can't operate nuclear stuff.

Not that much. If containment fails then the core simply drops into the ocean. Pretty much failsafe protection from a meltdown.
