Does that say it's made in Coushatta?

I probably wear my Hermes Cape Cod double tour most often.

I have an old Hermes Clipper I'm particularly fond of but if I were to drop money on a watch in 2019, I'd first look into a used Patek Philippe....way before I'd spend $3k on an Omega. Yes, the only thing more pretentious than a Rolex is a $24,000,000 Patek but there are (much) less expensive examples and probably the safest money long term.. ...*if* you are concerned with keeping your money safe in tangibles.

I too prefer it with the SS band. Where did you buy it? Mind telling me what you paid?

Just bought my first “nice” watch. Automatic, cost around $600. Should be here by September. Serica WWW W.M. Brown edition.

People who are serious about watches are wearing something that you've never heard of and won't notice even though they cost five times more than the "flashy" ones you're talking about.

Curious, are you meaning to say that a Submariner is "flashier" than a white gold Lange Saxonia Moonphase?

Rolex is absolutely a brand that people who are serious about watches are very frequently invested in. I'd venture to say that the longer a person is into watches, the more appeal Rolex will have. People who don't know anything about Rolex usually recognize the brand, and people who are serious about watches and especially those that have owned varying premium brands, will generally have a significant respect for Rolex.

And then you meet someone wearing a Rolex who says it has a ‘kinetic’ movement in it...so yea.

ETA: This damn thread. Bought another NATO band.

I have an older model of the Omega Seamaster 300m and love it.

I do wear my Rolex GMT II more often though, mostly because it is my every day wear for work.

The Omega I wear more when tailgating and stuff

Rolex is a bit more of an advertising creation and certainly more a popular icon but Patek dominates the watch investment market and watch auctions. Also when bought new, a Patek Philippe is pretty much guaranteed to increase in value just in the first decade or two of
ownership...something Rolex can't offer.

As someone mentioned, Rolex is a watch that appeals as a status symbol to the new rich, but Patek Philippe is MUCH more ubiquitous throughout history as visible among the elite and legendary names that will stand the test of time...and has nearly a full century of experience building watches over Rolex...with an exclusive list of faithful Patek owners that Rolex could only dream of... members of the English Royal family for two centuries, a few Vatican Popes, Picasso, John F. Kennedy, Spanish Queen Isablla, Tchaikovsky, Gen. George S. Patton, Walt Disney, J.P. Morgan, Tolstoy, Beatles, Haile Selassie, Duke Ellington, George Bush Sr, Russian Tsar Nicholas II, Albert Einstein, Franz Joseph Emperor of Austria, Clark Gable, Marie Curie, and of course Vladmir Putin all keep, or kept a Patek on wrist. The Kardishians, Kanye West, etc., no doubt wear a Rolex.

Both are superb watches but as a name, a classic, AND an investment, no contest.

If you are blown away by the Omega SM, then by all means, get that one, but I would suggest you do some research and reading on the Submariner. If you hold the two in your hands, I think there is a good chance you'll have a different opinion. And this may be something you never care about, but as far as holding exchangeable value, the Submariner is in a totally different league than the Omega.

I agree with this. I own both an Omega Seamaster and Rolex Submariner. I never planned on buying a Submariner. I was saving up for a GMT Master II. But once I tried that Submariner on, it just felt right. That's really what you want in a watch--that feeling you get when it's on your wrist--that feeling that you're whole. Keep in mind I have about 40 watches, so I am no brand snob. I do enjoy my Submariner more than any other watch in my collection.

So my advice is to go and physically try on a model you have in mind. Then when you find one that feels like "the one", shop around for the best price.

Watchuseek, watchrecon, Therolexforums, etc are all great resources for private sellers.

I like smaller manufacturers like Kobold or Ocean7. It is fun to find start ups for watches that you don's see too often. Example of Ocean7. This was their first watch several years back.

In 10 years I’ll bring this watch and you bring the 4 iPhones you purchased and we can discuss which was the better purchase.

Bad argument bro because in 20 years you'll have a nice watch on your wrist and have four smartphones in the landfill too.

Not saying watches aren't cool or nice to wear but a watch isn't that much of a necessity anymore with the time showing up all over the place.

If I were OP I'd go for gray market Omega but I'd get a Speedmaster. #teamOMEGA

You're an idiot. You show pictures of three watches and all three have different times and NONE are correct!

GREAT suggestion.... Lol

So...an investment in a proven value-retaining item is pointless because we are all wasting money elsewhere?

It was more directed towards his comment. If you’re going to argue a comparison, give an example.

FWIW, I don’t consider a diver a “dress watch.”

You have lots to choose from, but if spending over $1K, it MUST have an automatic movement a sapphire crystal. That Omega is nice but overpriced.
